Airport symbol shows continual weak connection

Hlello,

 

The Airport Symbol on my iMac screen has been showing only 1 or perhaps 2 bars for several weeks now. Often, I couldn't get into the internet, sometimes for whole days, though  the one or two bars still showed.There were no problems with my iPhone or Windows PC .My Mac is connected to the router by Wireless.

 

Today, I changed the router, and was able to  get into the internet again. I checked About this Mac and it says:

What I notice is that when he Mac first starts, or when I disconnect and then reconnect the Airport, nearly all the bars of the symbol are black, but after a few seconds they fade away.

 

I read in this forum about doing a reset through Airport Utility, but my Airport isn't listed there, so I cannot do this.

 

I feel something's wrong .....

 

Any ideas would be gratefully received !
