Is it a "real" installer DVD or a disc containing an archive of the installer disc in .iso format?

It's a "real" installer DVD that I purchased. I used it to install Windows once before on this same Mac and it worked fine. Installing again because my Mac hard drive crashed recently.

Possibly the disc needs to be cleaned or there could be a problem with the optical drive or with your OS X installation. Don't know what else to suggest. For the latter you could reinstall OS X.

I have installer discs for Windows 7 64 bit and 32 bit... I've tried them both and get the same message, but will try to clean them and see. I just had a new hard drive put in and OSX reinstalled, so that should be working fine. I also just burned the Windows drivers to a DVD in preparation for this install, so the optical drive appears to be working fine. Any other suggestions??

Yes. I would still reinstall OS X. I would also try removing the Boot Camp partition (use Boot Camp Assistant.) Then, start the process over. Don't insert the installer DVD until prompted for it.

I have had OS X installed for just a week, and am finally getting all my programs back to normal. I'm not ready to start that process all over again. And I am not getting the option to remove the partition since it hasn't even been fully installed yet.

I am having this exact same problem.
Recently had my hard drive replaced through Apple's IMac 1TB replacement program, tried to reinstall boot camp with a retail purchase Windows 7 DVD and it keeps saying that the "installer disk could not be found'. This is my third IMac hardrive (one original and second replacement) and it worked fine the first two times, it just won't let me partition my hard drive.
Wonder if this is an ongoing bug that needs to be addressed?

I'm partially throught the Boot Camp set-up process and keep getting the same error message when trying to install Windows. The disk is in the drive, not sure why it's not recognizing it.
Please see the following. It would appear your supperdrive is suspect - just the same as mine. The following discusses how to amke a USB stick install.

My problem was diagnosed to be an issue with the Superdrive itself. Apparently they can fail to play DVDs such as Windows 7 or the OSX DVDs but still be able to play movies or video games. A rather bizarre issue if you ask me but I saw the tests they put it through and can vouch for it. I suggest the OP has the same issue.

I had this problem on my brand-new Mac Pro, but fixed it in my case by burning another copy of the installer disc (from the official download image, not a pirate copy lol) at a SLOWER speed, rather than allowing it to burn at the "maximum possible" setting. This gives the laser more time to properly record, but it didn't perceptually increase the time it took to burn the disc.
I speculate that error-checking is too stringent, but weak; that is, not intelligent enough to correct any read errors. Of course, Apple's test configurations are likely using commercially-produced off-the-shelf discs rather than burned from downloads or they know to never use max speed out of habit.
