When syncing digital, your DAT machine should be the master clock with the Macbook digital sync set to external. A single digital clock must be used or there will be some digital hash created at some point in the recording.
Assuming you've done that.. It's doubtful you can make a full DAT tape recording as the change of sample rate by necessity, resets the audio driver which causes a brief disconnect with the recording program. For a second or two, Logic or any core audio recording program will not see the audio driver.
