It seems we are going on and on for years with the same recommendations working for some people but not others. It's unfortnate no one at Apple is permitted or willing to settle this.

It is clear to me based on prior posts and trying several things that there is much legitimate data in "Other", and no single silver bullet solution.  I did the music wipe thing a while ago and experienced Other coming back after an initial reduction. More recently, I had more success clearing out all my text message threads (accumulation of multimedia in there) and resetting Safari (cleared caches and history). This gave a visible drop in Other. Then I also searched my email -- on my computer, not my iphone -- for recent emails with large attachments. Since recent emails are also cached on your phone, simply deleting them from your account will flush that the next time your email synchs on the phone. These actions got it to a tolerable level, and clearly need to be repeated periodically.

Ugh, this has made me completely miserable...I've tried everything posted on this thread and nothing fixes all of it.

There is nothing to fix. "Other" is REAL DATA on your phone that you put there. The music swipe deletes REAL DATA, your music library catalog. It breaks your phone. It is a bad idea. Occasionally corrupt data gets into "Other" - restoring the phone will remove the corrupt data. Some is operating system data, but all of the rest of it is data that you chose to have on the phone - texts, MMS messages, email, a large number of iTunes tracks, Game Center data, Safari cache, Siri cache, etc. If it weren't called Other but was listed by what app owned it you wouldn't be concerned, even it it added up to 3 GB or more. but because it is called "Other" people think it shouldn't be there.

I forget that you have to be completely literal on these things. I've tried everything on this thread, and nothing reduces the 3.2GB. I've deleted old emails, I've deleted text messages with pictures attached, I've tried the Music swipe thing, I've tried deleting my Safari cache. I would definitely be concerned if an app was using half a gig of space and would delete that app, but that's not how "Other" works, you're right. If I knew what was contributing to taking up all this space, I would delete that thing. Unfortunately, nothing I've tried works.

Worked for me!  (Settings, General, Usage, Music, swipe left and delete -- then turn phone off and on)  over 10 gb free'd up.

Just hope this will solve the problem if it returns.  Some say it hasn't.

It doesn't work.  Space will show as free but your music won't play.  Then if you sync your music, even one song, in iTunes the other will come back :(. Bummer!

Unfortunately, for me, the problem returns and delete music content does not work anymore

Yes, music is still on the phone and plays.

Other grew back to 4.7 gb after a sync.  Gonna keep playing with it for a little while.  Will let you all know what happens.

Sync'd again, Other stayed at 4.7 gb.  Not great, but better than 10+!

Worked like a charm! Went from 5.7GB of Other, down to .16GB after three runs through the routine. Thanks for solving that problem

Latest update:  did the ... swipe-delete maneuver again.  This time all of the "other" is gone, as in none at all.  Played some music on the phone.  Disconnected, reconnected, sync'd again.  Still no "other".  I don't know what this means, but for the moment there is 10 gb free on my 64 gb phone.

Never been a big Apple fan, but bought iPhones a year ago to avoid problems that I had read and heard about with Android phones.  Looks like Apple stuff is just as weird, and the company as unresponsive as the others.

    I'm out.

I just have to add this because it was too simple and effective not to share:

    (comes from this site: /)

Fix iTunes “Other” from Taking Up Large Amounts of Space

    • Connect the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a computer and launch iTunes
    • Click on the “Summary” tab and scroll down to ‘Options’
    • Click the checkbox next to “Open iTunes when this iPad (iPhone) is connected” so that is is unchecked, then click it again so that it is checked

    Clear iTunes Other space issue

** NOTE: I just did this -- and right in the middle of syncing, too -- and saw 6.8 GB of other drop to around 1.2 GB. It didn't stop or change the sync at all, otherwise.
