ram preview doesnt used rendered frames?

this at least appears to be the case, since preview consistantly bogs down during more complex scenes, even when "ram previewed".  Is there a switch to tell it to quit trying to show the "project" and instead show the rendered frames (since being "a rendered frame" makes it just one object it should play back smoothly, right?)  So far the only way to tell whats really going on is to make it a movie...kinda time consuming for something that should be a bit basic...like in after effects...

    Actually, Motion has better playback than AE on the same system.

    Look in the Render menu, top right of the Canvas, and lower quality, resolution, turn off functions you're either not using or don't need at the moment.
