I'm trying to back up my Tiger OS system and need a compatible external drive to use the downloadable back up software.

Can't seem to find what will work online. Help!

Check with www.macsales.com  Note, however, I recall a recent post where not all newer FW drives will boot a computer since they are now designing for newer Macs where USB booting is the norm.  I have one of the older Voyageur docks which will boot my G4 but the newer ones apparantly do not.

You don't say which model iMac, and just saying iMac is like saying you own a VW beetle, but not if it is a 2010 model or a 1964 model.  With this kind of hardware question we need full technical details to make recommendations.

Since you have the base 10.4.x installed, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US

FW/800 will be your fastest interface.
