After updating to ios 6, I can't access my messages/imessages. Every time I open it, it shuts down and returns to the homepage. Help?

iPhone 4, iOS 6

I am having this same problem, very annoying nonetheless.

Experienced the same thing over and over again, so I turned my phone off to give it a break. When I turned it back on, ALLLLLLLLL of my SMS and iMessages were gone. I'm so upset. If I use the search/spotlight thing and type in something from an old text, the deleted text pops up, but when I tap it, I can't access it, it just sends me to my empty messages homepage. So frustrating!

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

I am having a problem where I try to send a text and it says I need to put in my phone number to send a sms and gives me the option to either cancel or go to settings (in general then settings) and type in my phone number but my phone number is already stored and entered. I click on save and it lets me send messages again. The sms phone number needed message occurs once in a while, but is becoming more frequent and most of my texts are sending at a very slow rate of time..............Any help or suggestions as this is very annoying and never happened on my 4GS until I updated to IOS6.

My friend and I had this problem too.

Reseting, restoring, closing... etc, nothing of that sort worked. However, we did find that spamming each other (from a different iMessage account, if you have one) until it "pushes the long message out" worked. It took a bit of time, but nonetheless, it worked.

I hope this will help somone.
