I have a 2009 iMac running Mac OS 10.6.8 I have the small keyboard without the number pad (USB 2.0) hooked up. I have had this computer since it was brand new. recently I noticed that some keys are not working

I have been using the keyboard veiwer found on the system prefences - language & text - input sources.
It was a good temporary fix until this morning when I woke up and the power had cut off overnight. When i came to the iMac it was off and I needed to log back into my user account and found that I couldnt because my password has one of those characters in it!! I have tried copy/paste ing my password from the guest account onto the main login area but the mac wont allow it! I have also used the disc from when I first got snow leopard and went in to reset my password. That worked except File Vault apparently also needs to be changed so i still cant log in. Now I have a new password for the main login but file vault is still preventing me from loging in! I have a huge paper due monday and it is on this computer. I dont get paid til wednesday!! I cant go out and buy a new keyboard til then and I cant rewrite my paper. its taken weeks to write it. Its 12 pages long and I was still working on the conclusion!! HELP anyone please.
can I pop the key off and somehow force it to press? or is there a way to over ride the file vault error messege? or is there a way to access documents in the admin user account from the guest user account?
