This has to be a fairly simple thing to do. I want to delete  a song from itunes library but keep it in a playlist.

I have several audio books that end up playing in my main library list. If I delete it there it deletes it in the playlist

as well. Hearing Jim Rohn speak after listening to Radiohead is a bit odd.

There has to be a way to do this.

There isn't a way to do it under any past or present iTunes version.  A playlist is just a selective listing of what it in the library.

In my older version of iTunes there is a little "eye" icon in the lower right corner.  If I toggle this it shows a summary of categories for iTunes.  Rather than build a playlist for one artist, if I just want to listen to that person I will select just that artist in the artist category.  It will then only display items by that artist and only play items in that list as long as the selection remains active.  It's a temporary artist playlist but done with the main library window.

    Hi,

What is the media format of the audiobooks? If it is shown as music it will appear in your main music library. If so, change media type to audiobook and the book will be moved to it's own library.

So as not to cause confusion, it will show up under Books in iTunes.

It will still be in the same iTunes library.

To the left of the audio file is a checkbox. If you un-check the box, the file will not play. Re-check to listen to the file.
