Yeah, it may be well documented, but that solution doesn't work for everyone.  It seems there are multiple issues with ios 6 wifi.

Thanks, but I can read, and I have tried the various solutions proposed in this thread. The only one that consistently works for me is toggling Airplane Mode, which is highly frustrating. My point still stands - the same problem persists in the new version of iOS 6, which claims to fix wi-fi issues.

I read all the 6 pages ... here is my experience :

my iPhone5 is on FW 6.0.1 (latest version) ...

Last night I was connected to wifi for 3 hours talking with my friend via Skype.. but today it suddenly  was getting disconnected from my home network frequently. I have done anything suggested in this discussion but none of them worked ...

it was very strange because  evey time I tried to go to the Wifi settings (after getting disconnected from the network)  this page was poping up :

    http://picx.pro/viewer.php?file=8832_img.php_fz82.png

finally I found a solution and I hope it works for you too..

I suspected that it may be related to the DNS IP that was set in my iphone ... it was 192.168.168.1 (the same as my router IP address)

so I tried to change it to : 208.67.222.222 (a Dynamic DNS ip) and then turned my WIFI off and on .. and now I am able to stay connected to WIFI with no issues.

I believe its directly related to a Firmware bug or our home network settings.

I also suggest you to enable "Ask to join network" too and Auto Connect too.

    Regards.

    Here's my story.

At the beginning of October, I had an iphone 4s.  My wife has a iphone 4, We also have an ipad 2, iphone 3g, and original iphone.  At that point, everything worked wonderfully on our wifi.

Then, I made the mistake of updating my iphone 4s to iOS6.  Wifi immediately stopped working.  I thought it was just a bug apple had when you had the 4s/ios6 combination and they'd fix it in ios6.1.  I also figured that I'd be getting the iphone 5 in a few weeks and could live withit.  Surely, they wouldn't release the iphone 5 having the same bug where it's unable to connect to wifi.   Fast forward though a very annoying few weeks of no wifi, I get my iphone 5.  Does it work on our wifi?  Nope.  Of course not.  On either phone, nothing is grayed out.  It just simply won't connect.  I've tried all the methods listed in this discussion... toggle airplane mode, restore the phone, reset network settings, etc.  Nothing fixes it.  I've even tried changing the encryption on my router.

Since none of these ideas have resulted in anything workable, I did more research.  I've found a few sites that list these two possible issues.

    1) ios6 will only allow authenitcation with ipv6 routers.  ipv6 is relatively new and so older routers are still at ipv4.  This seems to be the problem with my phone because I can connect at a friends house to his newer router.  However, it's rediculous that apple would force it's users to buy new routers simply because it fancies a newer protocol.  If this was the issue, I thought surely they would fix this is ios6.1, but they didn't.  I'd think this would have big ramifications for apple's users.  Think about it.  Now you can't use your wifi at home.  You can spend $50 and buy a new router and your phone will work.  But, you can't gauruntee that every starbucks, barnes and noble, airport, etc is going to upgrade their routers just for apple.  So, you are forced to use your cell data plan.  I'd think that could easily be construed as shady business practices (I have no idea what the legal jargon would be) in the court system.

    2) some iphone 5's have apple wireless chipsets that don't work, but some have intel chipsets that do.  Looking up the mac address (as the site advises) shows that I do have the apple chipset, but since I could connect at a friend's house, I don't think that's my issue.

Ok, this is an Apple issue. I have two Ipad 2's and one IPhone 4, I recently purchased a Iphone 5 and Ipad 3. I am having the same issues, my older devices work perfectly but the Iphone 5 and Ipad 3 keeps dropping my wifi and wont reconnect . This happens every time my devices go in sleep mode. I called support and they said it was a hardware issue and to have them replace the units. I went to the Apple Retail store today and they replaced the units. I went home and they are doing the same thing. I replaced my router and it still does it. Apple needs to fix this problem especially when I am going through my AT&T data plan quickly. I tried everything. If anyone knows a trick please share with us.

I fixed this issue by doing a manual restore , once u connect to your PC Ctrl click the device and select manual restore ! Choose a back up from the past when your wifi settings were working correctly , after I did this it connects to wifi every time and the " forget this network" is back

I've just got an iPhone 5 and it's my first Apple product after being an Android user for the past few years.

I'm also experiencing wifi drop-out for no apparent reason and it is very frustrating.

This isn't what I expected from Apple after all my fanboy friends told me that, on iPhones, everything just works.

    Well, fanboys, it just doesn't.

I am very unimpressed Mr. Apple.

so...i have been having this prob since i got my iphone 5.  called apple today.....they made me restore which did nothing.  told me to call apple store for a replacement.  i called....the girl there told me to change the SSID name on my wireless router settings to something else....if its too generic (ie: dlink, or linxsys) iphone doesnt like it.  i changed it...and voila....problem solved!  just like that.  to get into router settings....the info is uaully on the bottom of your router....website, username and password...etc....all there....simple to do...and only takes a minute to do.  then....reset network settings on your iphone...and TADA!  problem solved!  hope this helps

There's a lot of wi-fi networks where I live and my router was set to automatically switch to find the least congested wi-fi channel.

Since turning off the "Automatic (Smart Wireless)" channel selection on my wi-fi router (BT Home Hub 3) I haven't had any dropped connections.

This makes me think that my iPhone drops the connection when my router switches channels.

I just got my 2nd iPhone 5 replcement, and it's still not working.. It could be a mass production defect issue. disappointing..

I just got my iPhone 5 last night. And realized this afternoon that I was having trouble staying connected to the WiFi in my home. After reading most of the posts here, I started with the easiest thing to fix first. I was using a generic "linksys" name and no password protection for my home wireless network. Went in, changed the name of the network to something less generic and even added the password lock to it, and now it will stay connected to the WiFi. Or at least it has so far as I am typing this message. I know this seems very simple, but there is a chance this could work. I have loved all my apple products, but this was very disappointing when I noticed it, but if its a major problem for most customers as it seems, maybe they will do a mass fix as soon as possible.

I had this same problem with my 4s recently. I never use to have this problem and then it began with the latest iOS5 update and continued with iOS6. I have WEP2 security, not sure if that matters or not.

The fix for me was to manually add the network which is easy. Just enter the network name, security type, which can be found if you are connected via a computer and the password. I now connect to the network automatically. Not sure how Apple hasn't fixed this yet. Hope it works for you all.

    ______________________________________________________

I tried your fix. It worked on the iphone 5 so far!

I would recommend everyone who has the problem to try this. All others such as turn on ask to join networks, reset the networks, or turn on/off cellular, are not working at all, at least on my iphone 5.

    This FIX WORKS!

    Thanks a bunch!
