Q: TV flickering when connected to Apple TV

I have been using AirPlay Mirroring to view iPad2 content on TV via Apple TV for months - all working fine.

On Saturday I updated my iMac to OS x Mountain Lion 10.8.2 so can use AirPlay Mirroring to view iMac content. All seemed to be working OK at first but now every time I access AirPlay on either iPad or iMac the TV screen flickers continuously - so not able to view navigate the screens.

As iMac and iPad and TV all working fine it must be something to do with Apple TV? Tried changing the HDMI cable and port on TV - no difference. Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be a faulty Apple TV - it is still within warranty.

Hi,

Have you tried to update Apple TV yet? (5.1)
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1600
Some users reported that they needed to reset all settings on Apple TV after the 5.1 update.
Apple TV menu / General.

Please let me know if this all has been done and we will take it from there.

Not sure what version I am up to but presume it is 5.1 as I did searh for an update on Saturday when it was all working ok and it said none was available.
I am now not able to operate Apple TV/access the settings due to the continuous flickering.
I have tried resetting - disconnected power for 1 minute and also held down Down and Menu button on remote for 10 seconds.

Update: Managed to restore AppleTV using mini USB (after 4 attempts). TV screen display still flickering/jumping therefore not able to set up.

One more thing you should try is to hook up the Apple TV (and/or) iMac on the Eth cable directly to the router.
Thsi will eliminate WiFi bandwidth issue.
Please report back if you can test it this way.

Connected Apple TV on Eth cable directly to the router, even restarted router - still having same problem.
