Znufkin, how you're doing.
First of all, there is no way of upgrading OS X without an Apple ID. Only if you had the thumb drive, and this is not the case.
To reinstall Safari:
Open Macintosh HD/System/Library/StagedFrameworks/Safari/ and delete WebKit.framework. Now restart computer and run Software update.

Thanks for a quick reply Guimesquita2!
I do have an Apple ID, but I guess it doesn't count since it wasn't the one used to install LION?
I deleted both Webkit and Webkit2 Frameworks, and am restarting now. Wish me luck!

Sure, you have and ID that is not vinculated to the OS, which is bad, because you might pay for the OS X. Anyways, if you cannot reinstall Safari, try to isolate the issue by creating another user account on system preferences > users and groups. Make sure this is a system wide issue. If it works on another user, then ok. Just migrate your files, otherwise... Troubleshoot and troubleshoot.

Ok, rebooted and run the Software Update. I couldn't even run that one, now what? I got the following error:
"The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs."
This is bad right - since I can't reinstall Lion, upgrade to Mountain Lion, nor use software update! How did this turn out so bad?
My account is admin account, but I'll try to check my guest account if Safari works there, although I doubt it.
Looking forward to more tips/recommendations! Thanks!!!!

Yes. But you'd better create a new admin account instead of using guest user.

Ok, tried that... the same error happens in the new admin account: can't install software updates.

I finally managed to download the newest combo update and installed it successfully!
However Safari still doesn't open. It keeps saying the following:
Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
I also finally got access to App Store: but the download of Mountain Lion doesn't complete, because it seems to need Safari.
So I'm still stuck with the two issues:
i) Safari doesn't work, and I can't get it to work unless I can reinstall/upgrade the OS.
ii) I can't upgrade the OS without Safari!
--- unless someone knows a way to install Lion/Mountain Lion _without_ Safari??
Thanks for all your help!
