Dear all,

Last week I noticed that the top menu on my I Tunes was missing.  If I move my cursor to the positions where File, Edit etc. were I can see the menu listings but I am unable to search in the search box on the right.  I spent about 2 hours trawling through various forums where I found different advice.  I tried reinstalling I tunes but it has made no difference.  Can anyone give me an up-to-date answer as to the best thing to do as I know this has happened to other people.   Also, I would be interested to know why it happens?  I am using a PC with Windows 7.   Many thanks,   Sophie

That's consistent with trouble with the Segoe UI fonts on your system.

If you're using Windows XP or Windows Vista, try Vortical's technique from the following post:

But if you're using Windows 7, try itunesTRK's suggestion from the following post:

    Dear b noir,

Thanks for your reply.  Much appreciated.  I use Windows 7 so I tried TRK's suggestion.  When I went to the fonts directly and double clicked on them all, the Install button was greyed out on all of them suggesting that they are already installed.  The fonts that seem to be there are Segoe Print Bold, Segoe Print Normal, Segoe Script Bold, Segoe Script Normal, Segoe UI Italics, Segoe UI Bold, Sigoe UI Bold Italic, Segoe UI Leggero, Segoe UI Normal, Segoe UI Semi Bold.  Do you by any chance, have any further suggestions?

    Thanks again,  Sophie

Yes ... although, it's one of those awkward ones where there's almost too many further possibilities. There's a lot of different odd things that can happen on a Windows 7 system with those fonts.

Try having a look through the following (unfortunately very long) topic. It contains a lot of information on the Windows 7 variants of this, and possible methods for fixing the various Segoe UI-related issues that might be in play:

Thanks b noir and sorry for my delay in replying but I have been trying to work through some of the solutions in the document you kindly sent me.  I have checked the font dpi setting, reinstalled i tunes, used the system checker tool and the dxdiaog but no problems there.  I want to try Vorticals suggestion but I use Windows 7.  Erik Winchester suggested editing the registry entries but I'm nervous about touching the registry as thought it was just for advanced computer users.  Is it difficult to edit registry entries?  Also, do you think if I just leave this problem with i tunes it will get better with another update?  The problem is that I am spending so much time on trying to resolve it and I'm wondering whether if I wait for an update the problem will go away?!  Thanks again for your time and effort.

I'm not confident of that ... but iTunes 11 has just been released, so it would probably do no harm to check ...

Well, I updated to I tunes 11 this morning and now the situation is even worse.  There is even more missing text eg. the top menu bar even when I click unhide does not appear and I still can't seach in the search bar.  I also seem to be missing quite a lot of audio tracks (luckily I have a back up).  I'm not sure what my next step is.  Right now, the priority is to get all the missing tracks back.  Thanks again for your help b noir but I think I may need a real person now to help me!!   Have a good weekend.  Sophie
