User troubleshooting via the manual http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf is restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as a new device.

did all of that, I'm still having the same problem.
Plot twist: now sometimes when I plug it in it shows the apple boot logo over and over again but never actually boots up, this didn't happen until i restored it as a brand new phone

If a restore as a new device isn't helping it, which installs a fresh version of iOS, then you need to see about an appointment with the Genius Bar to have the hardware checked.

Same thing has been happening to me- SO FRUSTRATING. I've had it four days and it began on day two. I asked Apple & they told me to do the restore- but if there are still issues after doing that, I'll just opt for a new phone. I couldn't even get it to come on just now. The apple would pop up then it would shut off, over and over. Making an appt now.
