I'm just wondering, only because I've heard it rumoured that it IS possible ...

If it is possible to take a straight stereo mix of a film score (my own) and have Logic auto-5.1 it?  It would be a fake 5.1 of course ... but I'm wondering if such a thing is possible.

I've got a few CD's worth of film score music done for a series of films about space ... a lot of pads, washes, spacial things (as opposed to a collection of Rap or Hip Hop or Heavy Metal tunes).  Very spacey.  I'm just thinking, if I don't have to do a serious mix from scratch ... it would be worth it to put the music on CD to try marketing it.  And what would make it seem more attractive, would be to have it as 5.1.  Even the most modest of 5.1.

A film I scored (in straight stereo) just had a rerun in a local theatre with a new 5.1 surround setup, the owner/projectionist swears he heard the stereo coming out as 5.1 .... in fact he complimented me on the soundtrack and the mix and was suprised when I said it was done in stereo, NOT surround.

Which got me to thinking...
