Hello people, I have an interrogant. Support of Virgin Mobile USA say me, ask to apple for activate your SIM because our service only works with CDMA. I buyed an iphone 4s in USA; today I live in other country and VM tell me the same answer everytime.

What iPhone 4S did you buy? If Virgin Mobile is a CDMA carrier, I do not believe it is a supported carrier. If you purchased a CDMA phone in the US, the only part that can be unlocked by the carrier is the GSM side. CDMA phones cannot be unlocked.

Also, you are not addressing Apple here, this is a user to user technical support forum. The warranty on that phone is also only valid in the US, so if you had trouble with the phone you would have to return to the US with it for warranty service.

    You should sell the phone.

Thanks for you answer. Well, I want to do exactly that, to unlock the GSM side. I buyed my iphone 4s of Virgin Mobile without no contract in a CDMA plan. Now, I live in other country and I wish use mi iphone with a GSM local carrier, but I can't because the GSM/SIM slot isn't unlocked. I contacted to VM Support and they say me that the iphone that they sell are desing for use only CDMA network and that I contact apple for help about how activate the GSM side for international carriers. Well, I think that is a strange answer for a carrier, but I had to try and know if any other persons have the same problem.

The original carrier is the only one that can auhorize an unlock. You purchased the iPhone from where to work on Virgin Mobile? If they sold the phone, they are the only one that can authorize the unlock. Or, is Virgin Mobile the carrier you want to use now? Who was the phone originally locked to?

Virgin Mobile is the original carrier and I purchased my iphone 4s of them. I lived in Houston 3 months ago and I had a 35$us/month non contract plan with VM. In Bolivia there isn't VM how a carrier, and i want to use a local carrier to use mi iphone, only exist GSM carriers. Well, I think the answer to VM support was because they really can not release the slot GSM iPhones that sold for use abroad

I don't know about that. According to this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937, Virgin Mobile does not offer unlocking services, so you are out of luck. They are the only one that could authorize the unlock, and since they don't offer unlocking services, you cannot get it officially unlocked. Sorry.
