Sep 4, 2012 2:30 PM in response to blackdoodleby The hatter,Check the serial number of the card. There are TWO threads today about the 2600XT already.
If not then as long as you have 10.6.5+ the Apple ATI 5770 is a very nice huge really boost upgrade from that. Or 6870 if you check around on how to on other sites.

Nov 27, 2012 6:47 PM in response to blackdoodleby Running_guy,Have a similar model Mac Pro with HD2600 XT card which died last week.
Ordered the 5770 online, got it 3 working days later & after a quick install the Mac Pro is running again with much much better graphics.
Does confirm many postings that the 5770 works with earlier pre-2010 Mac Pros, contrary to Apple's disclaimer
Hope this helps

Nov 27, 2012 7:16 PM in response to Running_guyby Grant Bennet-Alder,In the Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 with PCIe 1 slots, it runs a little slower than in the Mac Pro with PCIe 2 slots. Apple does not like to re-test stuff that is not currently shipping, so they tend to just ignore that it will work in those older models. Good thing your buddies here know better.
