I have a Video Out on my Sony: It has 3 options, Squeeze, Letter Box, and Edge Crop. My VCR HDV/DV is set to Auto. My iLink Conv is Set to Off. It has On Squeeze and On Crop as options.

I am NOW using FC Pro X. I thought maybe if I downloaded that it would help my issues. It did not.

Is the camera recognized by the Mac in the System Profiler?

Click the Apple icon in the Finder and select About this Mac.

You should see the camera connected in the firewire section, if not we have to figure out where the breakdown is.

Sounds like there may be a port/cable problem?????

Can you test the cable on other equipment?

Can you test the camera on other equipment?

Can you test the Mac on other equipment?

Capturing from HDV to FCE or FCP X should be is as simple as connecting with a firewire cable and capturing.

It gotta be a hardware issue.

OK, I also tried the camera on my Mac Book Pro, and this computer, which is brand new. I did not see the camera connceted under FireWire in the profile list in either computer. The cable is a firewire 800 9 pin to 4 pin cable.

The finger seems to be pointing at cable or camera port.

You know Al, I really think your right. Process of elimination says cable to me now. My camera is not recognized on either laptop or iMac. I think there must be an adapter from the old style fire wire cable to this new style. I set an appointment at the Tacoma Mall Tuesday. I will be bringing them both my laptop and sony camera and discuss this issue with them. Maybe they see this all the time.

Ill let you know how it goes. Gezzz, all I wanted to do is edit my brother's wedding video but Im doing this instead.

Thank you for your assistance, time and energy Al

    Hi Al:

After visiting the Apple Store, it turns out it WAS the cable. I bought a Belkin Cable at the Mac Store, Tacoma Mall, Ive already downloaded my video and now editing. Thank you so much for helping me here.

The cable I did have was a Rocketfish™ - FireWire 800 9-Pin-to-4-Pin Cable. DONT BUY THIS ONE. LOL

Its sold in the Mac Dept and it wont work. Both cables I bought there didnt work.
