Major UI Lag in Logic Pro 9.1.7 on OS 10.8?

    Actually, it looks like I absent-mindedly installed the 10.8.2 Supplemental 2.0 update three days ago. As much as I'd like to think Apple have got their Logic act together, I wonder if this is the culprit.

    You had to finish in Studio One on Mac because it is running smoothly and Logic is lagging? That really is a good joke, hahaha!

     

    Maybe then the people at support team start worrying.

    It is unbearable they don't write here. They haven't had the courage to answer here directly...

    Don't seem very worried to me!

    Couldn't tell you that, if you had Auto-Update one there's probably been other updates in the past few days. Sounds like you usually leave Auto-update off, if you're running a system where audio recording and performance are required, it is best not to auto-update.

     

    These days, Apple's priority is neither Logic/audio nor performance. OSX is one huge and somewhat cumbersome OS these days.

    WindowsME, I have had a very long conversation with Logic Pro Senior Line manager and he assured me that all of these rumors are absolutely untrue.  The lag issue is a difficult one to fix because it has more to do with Mountain Lion.  I agree that it is annoying as **** and that we are all in a pretty crappy situation with this.  But when it comes down to it these kinds of obnoxious problems exist in all apps and in all platforms.  What I think the professional community needs right now is to see that Apple still passionately supports us.  Let's hope they do so.  But I for one feel confident that all is not lost.

    Can you share with us how did he assured you that so we can stay calm too...?

     

    I'm afraid that the lag problem is not the only one. Is the only one that concerns some here. Take a look around the comunnities...

    It's been 5 month. FIVE! For goodness sake!

     

    No solution, no clear answers, no alternatives, and no direct contact. You had to call them instead of the opposite!

    I'm in the same boat we all are and still keep hope but until now these has been a total lack of respect for Logic users.

    I'm worried about the future. Will we have to wait for Apple 5 month every time THEY make an error in order to solve it? What shall we do meanwhile?

     

    I'm afraid, we became expendable. There is a bigger market, with easier applications more profitable than Logic and that's the thing about know, PROFIT! Stockholders!!!

     

    We use to be Mac users and everybody look around us as something different, the company was different, the mindset, the employees. Then the rest world desired to be like us, the company became massive and EVERYBODY became different. Now we all are different, even the company mindset and the employees...!  ;-)

     

    Now that I'm wearing APPLE I'm a new person. I feel different , in fact I'm different...look!  :-)

     

    Do u know why I called myself WindowsME... it reminds me on Mountain Lion...

    Anyway, as I've said, I deeply wish for me to be wrong and for you to be right!

    We ARE safe, in my opinion.  Here's the difficulty the Logic team have been having:

     

    The lag problem is due to a Mountain Lion Core Audio issue.  The Logic engineering team tried to see if they could fix it just with a Logic Pro update (9.1.8) but unfortunately it did not.

     

    The Logic Pro lag issue is not found universally on all systems.  It is not that kind of easy to reproduce problem.  Even on my system, some days I have NO problems, others the same piece will be riddled with problems.  This poses a problem for the Logic Pro team to convince the Mountain Lion team to prioritize fixing it. 

     

    Again, I have been assured of two things:  1) they are absolutely committed to fixing it, but it will take patience on our behalfs.   And yes, I know this problem has been around for even longer than you mentioned.  It's been around since Lion.  A solution in Mountain Lion is in the works.  2) there is a very passionate team still very committed to developing Logic Pro.  The man I've been speaking with has been with the Logic team since BEFORE Apple bought it, and THAT is very encouraging!  3) There is much to look forward to in the way of new bells and whistles.  (But of course, they will be fixing Logic Pro first, for sure.)

     

    Again, these were told to me by somebody very high up in the Logic Pro team, and I totally believe him.

     

    And about that "article" about Logic Pro...  just want to point out that that information originated on a pro tools blog site, Logic Pro's biggest competitors.  And it's just a bloooooooooggggggg....

    I don't want to turn this into a harsh debate...

     

    I respect your believing and It maybe absolutely true what you exposed. And it maybe absolutely wrong the article...

     

    FACT is simple, users had to deal with a major problem originated by the company making them loose they're time and money with the consequent stress.

    No OFFICIAL APOLOGIES OR EXPLANATION have been made until the moment.

    We WILL have to wait because any other option means a deep learning curve again and because we know that Logic is still one of the best tools.

    But please don't ask people to believe or to be patient because everybody has believed and been patient enough.

     

    If this had been a priority for APPLE, the problem would have been solved ages ago, no matter how much money, people or resources they had needed!!! They have them...!

     

    Once thing I'm sure, under these circumstances the harder we push them the harder they'll have to do the same!!!

    Our complaints, even though stressing, help them ask for those resources to superior instances.

    There's absolutely no debate from me, I totally agree with you.  Clearly Apple's Mountain Lion has been a monster for most professional apps (it's not just Logic Pro that is having problems.)  My opinion is that the computer world is poised for a very big change - with all this touch technology both Apple and Windows have been making additions which cause trouble with older app technology.  I am absolutely not disagreeing with you that it's shameful that the professional users have been left dealing with these issues for well over a year.  And I also agree that we should continue to be vocal and express our massive disatisfaction to tech support.

    your fix may not have completely fixed the problem, but it seems to have minimized the instances.  i was going mad trying to figure out of it was me or Logic.  my Space Bar wasn't effectively stopping Playback, seems to happen more after i click on an active plugin, inside a channel strip or other track. thanks!

    Last week I got VERY good news from my connection at Logic Pro that they had been able to replicate the problem well enough to hand it over to the Mountain Lion people.  The final fix will be a Mountain Lion update, as it's really due to the OS, not the App.  So that's the good (if not GREAT) news.  The bad news is no estimate when to expect the fix.  But at least it's being taken very seriously and a fix is well in the works!
