Can you provide a screenshot of the System Preferences app? Press command-shift-4, then press the space bar, then click the System Preferences window. Then, in a new message here, click the camera icon on the editor toolbar and attach the new screenshot file that is on your desktop.

Yup, you're missing a couple other items there as well. Have you run some kind of "cleaning" utility or something like that recently, or otherwise tampered with the system?
In any case, though, Apple support is correct, you need to reinstall the system, which means you'll need to know where your discs are. It's possible the Apple Store will be willing to reinstall the system for you, but I believe they'll charge you for that, and you'll still have no disc, which you really need to have. If your machine shipped with 10.6, you can get new copies of the gray discs that shipped with the machine from Apple for a small shipping & handling fee. If it shipped with an earlier system, you can get a new 10.6 disc from Apple:

Thank you very much!! I am currently searching for my disc. I placed it in a very safe place...so safe, even I cannot find it.
I did not run any cleaning program or tamper with anything. At least not that I remember.
I will get my hands on the disc and fix.
Thanks again for your reply! Greatly appreciated.
