I have 'calculate all sizes' checked as a 'use as default' preference in View options in Finder, but it seems to mostly be an ignored command.  I'm trying to move data around to shrink the amount that will be encrypted routinely in my personal directory, and trying to follow the folder sizes has been very sloooow and frustrating.

Is there any way to tell Finder I really want this prioritized higher so it gets done quick and snappy, and reflects my changes right away rather than taking a reboot* to realize the folder size has changed?

*slight exaggeration, but it is really really slow....
