I recently upgraded to ios6. I thought all of my content was backed up, but it appears that some of my content is now missing. I was wondering, if I went back to ios5 if some of the content would reappear on my iPod and I could try to back it up again, or if it's "lost" forever?

There is no ability to downgrade iOS, never has been.  Even if there was, downgrading the iOS is not going to magically replace content that was not already part of a backup to begin with.

What is missing?  If it is personal content that was not already backed up, then it is gone.  If it is purchased content, you can just redownload it from your account (except for audiobooks, all other purchased content can be redownloaded).

Just music.  It looks like older music from a previous computer - I had used an external hard drive to store my music, but some of it is missing on the iPod now.  I didn't know if it was possible for a "system restore" of sorts.  It'll just be a hassle to go back through old CDs to sync those up, but not the end of the world.

Synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup that iTunes makes everytime you sync or as the first step of an update. If the synced media is not in your iTunes library it will not be on the iPod after the restore or update.

Thanks.  Unfortunately, I had my laptop die/crash and apparently I'm past my 5th device to store my music library so it's a little bit tricky.  However, I did have a few hundred purchased songs which will sync and some that made it into the library on my new laptop.  The rest of the missing music I have cd's for so I just need a few hours to sync all of those up.  Oh well.

If you are talking about the maximum of five Authorized devices, you can remove the unused ones.  If you still have any of the old computers, you can deauthorize them individually.  If the unused computers are long gone, you can deauthorize all and then reauthorize the active ones.  Instructions for both situations are here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420

He could be talking about the number of devices (five) he can have associated with an iTunes/iCloud account.

    See:
