iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I've found my iMac's Calendar program is populating my iPhone's Calendar with alerts / alarms all set for March 31st 1976 at 19:55 depending on where on the planet you live. Maybe it's an April fool's joke. I'm not laughing.

The alarm can't be deleted easily. One at time? Only on the iphone?

I mean every event is plastered with these alarms. I've turned the alarm feature off on iphone, limiting it's function.

I've disabled alarm on my Mac too. But the alarms are buried in the main Calendar.ics file.

I found them by exporting the Calendar to my hard drive as an .ics file and using a text editor to search for 1976.

I'm considering searching for the text string that starts with

    BEGIN:VALARM

    and ends with

    END:VALARM

and then deleting every instance. Would it work and not screw up my Calendar?

My calendar files are very important and I don't want to trash them. Maybe I'll try it on another computer where Calendar isn't being used for anythin important.

I suspect that iphone's latest ios is involved but am not sure.

    KnaveDave,

Thanks for the info, but I'm no longer have those errors anymore - read on. I've since clean installed Mountain Lion a couple of times. During the first clean reinstall I set up iCloud as if I owned every iDevice, had lots of "sharing" type friends, and traveled a lot. There were so many trouble messages scrolling down Console's face that I couldn't read them. When they paused it looked like a great deal of them in in some way were related to iCloud. So I re-reinstalled ML, but this time I didn't set up iCould. The following are messages I'm now getting. I hope I did't make it too lengthy. I should mention that I made a bootable OS install thumb drive earlier on, so it doesn't take long to re-install again.

    (and on and on)

(The lines in bold are my edits.)

So my question is what in the heck is going on? I don't really have a lot technical skills, so you may have to dumb-down any explanations or suggestions, but please help! Is this OS bug-ridden, or do I have some compatibilies issues, or . . ?  The iMac was bought last July, the 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, 500 GB Internal.  I need to install Parallels with Windows 7 on this thing, but it sure doesn't seem ready. Many thanks for even sticking with me.

Now that I'm in edit let me add:  PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

I program air conditioning hardware, I got the iMac because after using a windows laptop all day, I didn't want to have to 'fix' things at home too.

I switched from an old and failing Palm hand held to using an iPhone for my vital field notes. Regretfully Apple has two really lame programs in Calendar and Contacts. Two of the simplest databases going.

My problem is related to the undesired corruption of my Calendar apps. A few months earlier, I had hundreds of duplicated entries, and even my Contacts were duplicated badly.

It started with iCloud, which I use sparingly for Notes and Reminders. Adding the latest OSs I think aggravated the maters.

I have a Calendar crash log but not as complicated as yours. On quick look, it's a mess. And I really don't know what it means. Apple however does.

Your computer is still under warranty and I think you need to call their service people for assistance.

The last 10 months of Apple apps have been buggy beyond belief. To the point that I'm waiting for the latest Blackberry creation to see if they have got the simple things solid.

    Call Apple and good luck.

Thanks, KD, but doesn't the warranty cover free software support for 90 days - which has expired; and one year for hardware? As soon as I noticed I was having promises I tried to access Apple support, but they said I would have to buy AppleCare before they could help. I should probably buy AC anyway. One would think though that a clean reinstall would fix problems; however, some have persisted through two clean installs; for example:

(This message has persisted through all the installs, and are numerous and identical, with the exception of the different pid numbers.)

    (The following warning persists)

(If they know it's deprecated why do they use it?)

There are messages, warnings, and alarms that persist as well those that are new. I should mention, in case it's relevant, that after I got the iMac a software package became avilalable (called VantagePoint) that I use for my business and of course there is no Mac version; so, I installed Boot Camp along with Win7 which seemed to work fine. But I got greedy (preferring the Mac UI over Windows 7); plus, I got tired of rebooting everytime I needed to use the program - so I installed Fusion. The VantagePoint techs subsequently informed me that the package wouldn't run work Fusion but it would with Parallels. So it went: Boot Camp, to Fusion, and ended up using Parallels Desktop to import Boot Camp using the Parallels Coherence tool that integrates Windows with OSX seemlessly. Very, very cool, but . . .

So, Dave my friend, I will contact Apple and see if they can help. The local Apple dealer has a two-week backlog so I'm trying to avoid having to shelve my machine for so long. I'll have to look into the warranty details further to see if I'm covered, in that, after factory refreshing the machine, persisting problems suggest hardware issues. I'm hoping one of the communities other geniuses step forward and earn a green star.  Oh, one last item: in that I'm the only user and can live without Calendar, Reminder, Notes, Mail, etc. and have no devices that I need to sync, do I need iCloud at all - and what are the pros and cons of not using it. I will appreciate any ideas or commentss.
