RAID card issues. How do I remove my RAID controler and use my drives seperately?

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro with a RAID card installed, which is controlling 4 300GB drives at RAID 0. I no longer want this configuration or the card. I'd rather have 4 seperate drives. Speed is of no concern anymore. So, when one of the four drives died, I thought this would be a great opportunity to ditch the RAID controller and I'd have at least 3 of the drives. I removed the RAID card and plugged the drive cable back into the motherboard. I re-seated the 3 good drives in positions 1, 2 and 3, then booted with the snow leopard disc. I was hoping to see 3 drives to choose from with disc utility and format them. However, no drives show up. Nothing. Any ideas on what could be wrong here? Are the drives undetectable because they were in a RAID? Thanks for any help.
