Hi, I'm trying to get my home network working so that I can stream Apple Lossless music wirelessly without hiccups and interruptions.  Is that even possible?  I am getting regular interruptions.

I have digested most of the basic information out there (make sure you've got the right 802.11 settings, etc) but am having trouble finding information on advanced wireless network conditioning.  How can I identify when and where I need a repeater, and if my wireless throughput is consistently sufficient for lossless streaming?

I've also considered getting a Sonos system but I'm not sure if their wireless is actually any different, or if I'd just run into the same problems.  I set up my Time Capsule to extend my dual-band Airport Express (wirelessly, not via ethernet cable) - it's only about 15 feet away but even with that, there's no demonstrable difference and my devices almost never hop onto 5Ghz (they tend to stick to 2.4).

Finally, is it at all possible to set up an entirely separate wireless network just for music streaming (and not for connectivity to the outside world)?  At least then its bandwidth wouldn't be competing with the computers that are surfing the net at the same time.

If you're curious about specifics, I have one Airport Extreme, a Time Capsule and two Airport Expresses.  I'm not sure how to click on them in Airport Utility and find out exactly what models they are, but they're all relatively recent, 1-2 generations old (not early generations).

Thanks!

I would suggest starting by checking out this AirPort User Tip. It should provide you with the basics to determine the best placement of your AirPorts in an extended network.

Next, you should arm yourself with some throughput measuring tools. One I would suggest is AJA System Test. Another is WiFiPerf. Either of these should be able to help you measure data throughput on your wireless network. I would recommend that you run a baseline with your current setup and rerun them after making any adjustments to see if you get an improvement.

    Yes.
