Connect your iPhone to the computer with whih you first sync'd to iTunes. If you respond with, "Oh, that computer just broke, and was totally destroyed in a kitchen fire", it's a clear indication that your handset is stolen.

If you know your passcode, unlock the phone, then go to Settings/General and tap on Passcode Lock. Enter your passcode again, then tap "Change Passcode".
If you do not know your passcode there is no way to change it. You can remove it by Restoring the phone with the last computer you backed up to. If you didn't back up to a computer or you don't have access to that computer all you can do is completely erase the contents of the phone and start over by restoring from Recovery Mode.
