I wish I could have kept the i7 quad core but this is getting ridiculous. Now people are reporting both HDMI and DVI getting the same problem.

Waiting for a fix is just way too risky if you've got the chance to get your money back. You could always hold on to the cash until this blows over and then buy one again. Of course this is only good if you have another machine to work on while you wait!

I have a bad feeling it's the HD4000 itself, not a firmware/software update but a return computer to shop job. I hope not for other peoples sake but I couldn't take that risk.

    Sam.

I bought the MacMini 5,3 Server from the Apple Refurb store, and it has the same problem, could this be a software problem because I don't remember  any hoopla over this when it came out.  HD 3000 chip set. 8 gigs of ram. 2.0 ghz quad core i7

I just dug out MDP to HDMI and plugged it in, had a couple short blinks but no major sync problems.

Spoke too soon just had a major snow screen. I am using a generic MDP-HDMI adapter.

I came home for lunch to do something else and decided to give the Mini-DP to DP cable another try, and what do you know, it's working today! I am now reminded of how bad my eyesight is because I'm getting 2560x1440 again! However, just to bring up the About This Mac > Displays window to confirm what my resolution was, I got two black screens, each about 1-2 seconds long and both incidents separated by a 1-2 second gap. So it's definitely affecting my Mini-DP/Thunderbolt port. I just don't know how long this will last and I'll have to go back to HDMI to DVI.

BTW, I did take my Mac Mini and cable to my brother's place to test on his monitor and confirmed that my Mac Mini (at the time) definitely was not sending anything through the Thunderbolt port. I have no idea why it has decided to come good again, and I have no idea how long this will last. Very weird. Still smells very lemony to me, sadly :-(

Anybody try the new 10.8.2 update for Minis yet?

Tiberia, my Macmini has the same model, id, vram, etc numbers as yours.  I am having the flickering issue with mine.  For those wondering about the different amount of vram, if you have 16gb of memory in your MM, it will increase your vram to 768MB.

Interestingly I only have 8GB of RAM in my MM, so that is really odd that it is now showing 768Mb of VRAM.  I wish I knew what my settings were before they replaced the main board.  I never really took any notice of the amount of VRAM prior.

I updated to 10.8.2 the first day I got the mini, I think they pulled that one a few days later. Wonder if I have some problematic code in my version.

Surprisingly enough I got a response to my e-mail to Philip  Schiller and Tim Cook.

I will be contacting her tomorrow to see if I can drag any info out about this problem. If nothing else it provides us with another contact to light a fire under until this issue is resolved.

The new 10.8.2 Combo is a different build than the older one.

Shame I didn't make a backup before I updated. Now I'm stuck on the damaged build. Oh well, I'll get it when 10.8.3 comes around. Hopefully containing the display fix.

I made a clone before applying the 'damaged' build that had been pulled.  I'm wondering what's different with the new build, is it worth restoring from the clone just to apply the new build versus just waiting for 10.8.3.

Does it not show as an update?

Have you tried a direct download & Install?

Thanks for the link BDAqua, I downloaded what amounted to 1.8 MB installed which I assume updated my system to the latest build. Now off to check the stability, will report back with my findings.

It seems that the Mini HDMI video issues are in fact an

Intel problem and Intel is supposed to be releasing new

drivers to address the issues.  See this article:

Hi Ryan. I did the same thing and got word-for-word the same reply from the Singapore office. The conversation was no help. No acknowledgement of the problem whatsoever. It was a couple of weeks ago so things may have moved on but don't get your hopes up.
