Okay, so this is off topic, but this is the forum I am already in, so I thought I would throw it out there.  So remember 10 years ago when your phone would ring and your car stereo would go crazy.  Well, I haven't had that problem for years now until the iphone 5.  It makes my clock radio go nuts anytime I get even an email over wifi.  Anyone else have this problem.

This happened with my iPhone 4 when I was on a GPRS connection rather than Edge or 3G. My iPhone 5 only has a 3G/LTE switch so I can't deliberately turn off 3G, and as there's pretty good 3G around me I no longer hear the radio going nuts as you describe it. So I'd hazard a guess you're in an area with poor 3G reception.

I truly wish you good luck with your Samsung purchase. Me personally I thought about making a switch but I'm just not ready to give in yet. I have had every iPhone and have also had several android phones. Out of all of the iPhones that I have owned, this is the first real problem that I have ever had out of one. Apple is not a perfect company and will make a mistake every now and then as will every other company. Is it excusable? No. Is it forgivable? Yes. Now I say this for this reason. Both my brother and sister have Galaxy S3's. and the both of them sound like all of us in this forum. They constantly complain about crappy battery life. There has yet been a time that one of my siblings has come to my house and not had to put their phone on the charger. So as bad as my iphone 5 battery is, I think I will stick it out with apple for now because I love the products and the ios ecosystem. But I'm not mad at anyone who takes the trip to Samsung because in reality they make awesome phones as well.

I am back, and I am entirely sure this is software related... not battery/hardware.

as long as I use gmail as fetch and integrated as gmail I get the following..

If i integrate gmail as exchange with push to get contact support I get less then 4 hours.

let me clarify.. I don't get insane usage with this configuration..

    BUT!

I can get a good 7 hours of usage with 12-15 hours standby...

better than before.. 4 hours usage and 8 hours standby until dead...

Tim, Thanks for the information.  I don't think that is my problem.  I actually have full service on LTE here.  My IT guy at work said it had to do with a shield on the phone.  Sounds like it might be a hardware thing, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had this issue.  It doesn't sound like a common problem.

it is imo a mixture of software and connectivity problems.in belgium iphone5 doesnt support lte yet,so we only have a 3g switch.when i switch to edge battery life is not bad.3g however kills it.my best guess is that they somehow messed up with programming the phone for different networks worldwide.as i said before on edge and wifi battery is comparable to iphone4.but that is totally unacceptable.so anyone who still says that its not software or connection related just isnt thinking straight..but let me tell you this : fix or no fix i will never buy another iphone.

Pardon me 4 being slow but what do u mean fetch and integrated???

fetch pulls mail on a interval (15 minutes / 30 minutes / manual).

push pushes new mail to your phone as it arrvies (this is best and what should be allowed by default), but it kills battery in my case.

integrated just means adding a email account to a phone.

it's definitely not a connectivy issue in my case, when i am using push I can be with a signal strength of -55 to -60 and still burn battery at 1% every 2.5 minutes.

ok let me clarify that :D i dont really mean signal strength but rather the difference between being on 3g or edge networks.on edge my battery lasts almost twice as long as on 3g.guy at the apple store told me to simply keep off 3g,but then when i told him that that is quite ridiculous on a 4g phone he didnt have an answer :D

apple has simply released their worst phone so far.besides its appearance, you would be better off with an iphone 3g right now.which by the way lasted twice as long on 3g than my iphone5!!!!

i can't use LTE here.. it's only in the city and i live on the outskirts.. so for me it would just be a pain to turn it on and off... letting it decide between LTE and 3G would just kill the battery

ok so let me ask two questions which i hope everyone here answers :

1:do you believe this can/will be fixed

2:if not will you ever buy another iphone since you kinda got screwed for a 1000$

will it be fixed? maybe eventually.

will I buy another one? well, after taxes I was out $1015.87 for a 64 GB unit.. I could buy any other phone on the market for almost half that..

    UMM NO..

The cost wouldn't bother me if I knew I was getting a polished product, like what Apple used to deliver... but to receive a half baked product that I need to disable half the features to even recieve half the expected battery..

they can keep their 5S, 6, 6S, etc..

    I will move on..

oh i got another question to add!!!

3:do you think this phone would have been released like this with steve jobs still in charge?

because it seems to me that apple's magic died along with him..

  • 2,834. Re: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4
    spyd4r Level 1 Level 1 (40 points)

i don't think maps would of been allowed to ship with Steve in charge.. problem is that maps was so baked into iOS 6 that you couldn't push out maps unless you pushed out the whole OS which would push out the iPhone 5.

    Which wouldn't/can't happen.

so really, there was no option but to ship the product as is. Hopefully with other leadership in place maybe it would have been better baked by launch date though.. who knows... can't dwell on it..

But I can dwell on crappy battery life on this $1000+ phone.
