My music library was lost after I updated my iPhone. How can I get it back?

resync your phone (music) or if purchases you can redownload in itunes app under purchases

anytime you do a software update it will wipe all data. you need to be doing backups.

that being said, just plug your phone in with itunes an re-sync your music.

I have backups, and I did sync with itunes - everything is there except for the music.

My wife just came to me with her iPhone 4S and showed me that her entire music library had disappeared from her phone. It's still on her iMac in iTunes, but repeated attempts to sync the music with her device have been fruitless. Everything else is on her phone: photos, apps, etc. Only the music will not return. She has not updated her OS since iOS6 came out months ago. Neither has she upgraded iTunes on her iMac to 11.

This morning I installed the new version of iTunes and I found a way to upload my music library to my iphone: I chose "genres" in the menu on the top and dragged one genre icon after another to the right, where my ipkone icon appeared as I dragged. I also tried to drag the entire music folder over there, but - at least for me - that did not work.

Found the solution to my problem through AppleCare phone call (Level 2). Somehow I had checked a box in the Options pane on the Summary page for my Device (iPhone 4S) in iTunes. The box said "Sync only checked songs and videos." Since on the Music page for my Device on iTunes, like many people I have the Sync Music and Selected Playlists options checked, I thought this was the same thing, so must have checked it thinking I was doing the right thing. Once unchecked, as below, my playlists could once again be synced to my phone.

I told the support guy this seemed inconsistent, that "sync checked songs" means one thing on one pane, and something else on another. He tried to explain that one above has to do with your Library, not the Syncing of the phone, but to me me this is very confusing, and I still don't understand the difference. Anyway, problem solved.
