Q: iTunes 11: No more album art preview for selected track??? :(

For me, iTunes 11 is much worse than iTunes 10.

You can no longer view album art by selecting a track in list view.

In list view, album art is invisible — the album art square in the lower left-hand corner is gone. So unless the track is playing, you can't see album art. This is terrible news for people who need list view, like DJs. People like me who rely on album art to remember what an album is, can no longer just click around and see the covers. This was a tremendous memory aid, which is now gone.

Now to see album covers, you have to either play the track, or switch to grid or artist list — which show either no tracks, or very few tracks.

Bummer.

I think that the removal of cover flow may be related to this patent case.

    http://www.edibleapple.com/2011/04/04/apple-wins-judge-reverses-6255-million-pat ent-judgement-previously-awarded-to-mirror-worlds/

Although the ruling was reversed in Apple's favour, there may be something else going on.

I also miss the ability to drag and drop cover art into iTunes. Cover art seems now to be only added through iTunes.

I do like the overall look apart from missing coverflow and the album art view. Also I like the 'up next' feature when playing smart playlists

Command+v (Paste) works just as well to add your art. In fact easier, when you can right-click Copy art from a web browser for example.

I really do miss the Album List View from v10. The Artist view in this version kind of replaces it, but in Artist view you can't really customize or manually manage how your albums are listed. They should just get rid of "Artist" view and bring the album art functionality back into List view.

I do however like the album view for certain playlists I have, and do appreciate how much faster this version is.

I feel like iTunes is punishing me for using the songs view... literally no way to view album art in the window except for the tiny picture above.  And album view MIGHT be worth using if they let you have a column browser to quickly group by an artist or genre.  Artist and Genre views are simply a mess.

Seems like Apple wants to have the iPhone/iOS experience to be the dominant interface for everyone, even desktop users.

I can see saving screen space for an iPhone, but I have a 21.5" iMac and an iTunes library of 65K songs, about 1.3 TB of data in Apple Lossless. Do they really think I'm managing this on anything other than a desktop?

To me, iTunes is like the card catalog in a library, I need to see all the list data (song, artist, album, track, time, bitrate, etc.) as well as the album artwork at the same time. I can get by with a lot less on my iPod, that's just for playback. But on my iMac, I need a library manager.

Since the preview window was introduced, I can just drag an album cover to the preview window on any selected song and it will be added. I don't need to even open Info and then drag and drop into the Artwork section. Another thing is that right now it will be hard for me to check if any of the songs are missing Album Art. The "Albums" will show the artwork as long as one of the songs in the album has the artwork. But that's quite stupid and annoying to check.

Another thing regarding "UP Next", it only shows 20 songs. That's the other way of checking artwork but limited to 20 songs.

    Shameful.

Just upgraded to 11 - ****! Album art in songs list missing! ....What now?

Couldn't agree more with everyone here about this massive misstep from Apple.

    Please put this feature back.

    11.0.1 coming soon (we hope)

Oh dear. I was loving so many things about the itunes and then I realised that song view and playlist view don't show your album art. Then I went to album art some new stuff and realised how much of a hassle it now is. Would it have killed them to leave this preview function how it was. There's a great huge space for it! So annoyed now. Why?!!! On the plus side it does look amazing in the other views and i love how the search feature has art and some features like next up - I would have called it a great improvement had they left this feature alone.

Hate having to left click, go down the menu...get info...artwork...drag and drop. This is a massive pain, when I could just drag and drop previously. Admittedly it was quite buggy sometimes but was miles better.

    Apple's New Motto...If it ain't broke...break it!

Wait I can't tell....are you guys happy with the new "improved" iTunes11 and the lacking of your album artwork being able to be displayed in the lower sidebar?    Yeah that must be REALLY tough programming to have that as an option to allow us to decide if we still want it or not after using it that way for all these years....makes perfect sense!
