Q: iTunes 11 causing registry error 19 re my DVD-RW drive

Hi

I have had to action three system restores since updating to iTunes 11.

After each install of iTunes 11 my Pioner DVD-RW drive model DVRTD11RS is tagged with a registry error 19 and will not work. I have restored my laptop three times to get this resloved and unistalled iTunes 11 twice however on re installing iTunes the drive will not work.

One work around I have tried is deleting the upper and lower Filter values in the drives registry entry. This has allowed iTunes to open and recognise the drive but it has come up with a message stating:

The reistry settings used by the Itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes.

... and when I reinstall iTunes I lose my drive again not only for use with this programme but for everything.

It currently will not recognise the drive automatically and when playing CDs constantly freezes.

My laptop is a Packard Bell EasyNote TK85 using windows 7 on a 64-bit system.

Please  can someone advise how to resolve this issue?

Thanks

Steve

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?

In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:

    dvdcd diagnostics.png

    ... and click "Next".

When you get through to the final screen:

    diagnostics complete.png

... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)

As you will see from the following screen shot iTunes isn't recognising the CD drive yet if you look at the iTunes side bar to the left the Cd drive is there and it will play the CD if this icon is clicked on. thanks Steve

this is the screen text following the diagnostic test showing an error 43?

    No drivers in LowerFilters.

    No drivers in UpperFilters.

Failed loading CD/DVD drives, error -43. Try doing a repair install on iTunes from the “Add or Remove Programs” control panel.

    cheers

Hmmm. So apparently not an AFS.sys issue. (Granted, that would tend to return a code 10 rather than a 19, anyway.)

Would you mind adding back the UpperFilters entry and posting the diagnostics that are generated when Device Manager is showing the 19, please?

(On some occasions, that can show up clues of a conflict with virtual drive software, which can produce similar sorts of symptoms.)

Well... I put registry values back as  they were - nothing happened i.e. iTunes was still not working - copied the text as requested from iTunes just as my son piped up (who was on his PC)  as he'd found one of your earlier posts re a similar issue on a an early version of windows with a code 19 error where you advised them to do an iTunes repair - we followed this and nothing. However my lad decided to reboot the laptop after this... and hey presto driver appears to be working and as you can see from the test results below it passed the iTunes diagnostic test:

I have the same problem with my IBM Thinkpad T60p running Windows 7 32-bit. I installed iTunes yesterday and then the CD drive stopped working. Windows would not recognise that the CD drive was present - it was not listed in drvies in Windlws Explorer, or shown in Control Panel/Computer management. The only way I've found to resolve this is to un-install iTunes and carry out a system restore in Windows, which fixed the problem - but I now don't have iTunes installed, and I need this to load music onto my iPod Calssic bought at Christmas!
