This is unbelieveable why the jfkdla;fj would they do that? It drives me crazy with everything looking the same.
Also Finder seems to be hard to "find" anything. It has changed to the worse also.

Relief may be on the way... Colour has returned to the sidebar of the just-released iTunes 11. Hopefully this is the beginning of the restoration of colour to all sidebars. Keeping fingers crossed for the future.

The missing icons were not to do with SIMBL, rather to do with the plugin colorfulSidebar1.0.1.
This has long since been updated, as you may have already discovered.

YOU'VE DONE IT SIMON!!
This has been an ongoing problem forever and I was hoping someone would post something when it was fixed. This truly is a fix and it works with Total Finder AND upon restart. You don't have to start it up again. It just keeps working like before. You are my hero. I think this should be marked solved.

looks like Simon fixed the issue with sideeffects.
Still I have another work around if others are having hassles.
I updated from SL to Lion.
Tried the simbl route and then the Lion Tweaks. With the usual hassle of having to relauch finder.
So I located the icons:: /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
The coloured icons were there, I backed up the currently used "Grey Icons", renamed/replaced them with the coloured icons and bingo. All sidebar icons I changed to coloured with no hassles of needing to re-launch finder.
My Lion machine didn't have the coloured icons so I copied over.
I also used CandyBar to change other sytem folders aswell.
Just another work around FYI.

That's not supposed to work.. the whole reason EasySIMBL is required for live code injection.
I'm mystified why it's working for you.. it almost sounds like you still have SIMBL / ColorfulSidebar active, which is why it is working ie. co-incidental. Well done in either case

Yes, not supposed to work but it does????
I think by overwriting the grey icons with the colour icons in the sytem resource file, the system will simple reference them as usuall.
I didn't find any metadata in the icon files so I guess that's why it would work after all, the icons are referenced locally.
My MBP was always a Lion machine so never had colour icons which I verifified afer my successful hack on my iMac (originally SL which had colour icons and the Lion OS grey icons after updatin OS) and opening the resource folder.
I just copied over the grey icons as stated and no worries.
Just one of those, it's just an image so how is it referenced/loaded/created to sit in the sidebar???
The grey icons for the mail sidebar are in there aswell but my hack hasn't worked there as yet.
Thanks for the reply Simon, it's good to spread the love.

What usually happens is you just get grey sillhouettes of the icons you replace in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Apple Mail is something I'd love to fix due to the number of requests ; )

when I tried my replacing hack on the mail icons, I ended up with what I would call weird pixelated colour mail icons.
I made sure dimensions were the same but as the file format wasn't in photoshop a creted bitmaps and renamed.
Oh well, I'd love a mail fix as well buddy....
So far my hack has worked on My iMac originally SL, 2 x MBP 13" that had Lion originally and a iMac which had Leopard which went through the SL to Lion upgrade.
In the interest of problem solving as you're the system guru, I'm running NTFS for MAC OS on all machine
if that would make any difference at all???
Cheers mate, Gaz

Revisiting this thread after a LONG LONG time, I'm surprise to see only 5 clicks on the 'I have this problem, too' on the opening post (and one of those is mine!).
I'd suggest people who want colour back should click on that. I believe if it gets into the thousands, you might just get Apple's attention.
