I'm using iTunes 11. I purchased four individual tracks off a CD of a Brahms String Quartet. Four files have appeared in my iTunes library, all with the same name (download.mva). Each is in its own folder named for the track with .tmp on the end of the name.

The four tracks do not appear in the Music library.

The four tracks do not appear in my list of purchases.

Do I have to rename them and add them to the library?

Or am I just being impatient and iTunes will sort all this out if I just wait long enough?

Is this something to do with my having iTunes Match so some negotiation is going on between my computer and iCloud?

Better check that that didn't happen while I was typing this. ... No it didn't.

Maybe my computer (a late 2008 15" MacBook Pro) is too busy right now -- I'm ripping a DVD and it was just doing a Time Machine backup.

Anyone have any wisdom to impart?

Thanks,

Dave

It looks as though they have not downloaded, the .tmp extension is for a temporary file. Download them again.

Re-downloading seems to only be possible if the original download was noticed by my computer. The purchases (which were charged to my account) have not appeared in the list of purchases on my machine. On the product page, the tracks in question show as Purchased. So, I don't see how to download them again.

The help instructions refer to 10.6 and involve activating a panel which no longer seems to exist in 11.

Ah, but I did find the Report a Problem option on my Purchase History page.

Thanks for your help, and if I'm missing something obvious, please let me know.

If you are missing something there are now 2 of us: you went to purchases in iTunes and it did not appear.

Did you also check Store Menu>Check for available downloads?

Yes -- sorry, I should have mentioned that. It said I have no pending downloads.

The downloads have finally appeared in my Music list -- Yeah!

But they're not yet showing up in the Purchased list.

    I'm sure they will, patience

I heard back from iTunes support. They did something to make the downloads visible under Check for Available Downloads. So I chose that and the status bar at the top of the the main window switched to say "Accessing Apple Store" with an empty progress bar.

I noticed the downward-pointing arrow at top right (confusingly next to the search box) and clicked that. This brought up a Downloads window. The window is empty, but at the bottom of the window it indeed says that four downloads are pending. And there's another downward pointing arrow there, too. So I clicked that also.

    And nothing has happened.

Ah well, maybe I should have waited for 11.1.

Aha, the reason that the tracks are showing up in my music list is because they've found their way into my iMatch library. The downloads from the story still haven't happened.

All is now well. The problem was that iTunes on my computer had gotten itself into a mess. The clue that allowed me to twig this was that my two Airport Expresses weren't visible in AirPlay. Then, it wouldn't quit. So I grit my teeth and Force Quit and restarted the computer. Now everything is working the way it should.

I'll have no choice but to monitor how things go because I use iTunes all the time, but it looks like this was one of those coincidences where the application was probably already in a bad state when I set out to purchase the tracks in the first place.

    Thanks for all you suggestions.

I don't think it was a coincidence; I just experienced the very same issue buying a single track. Shows are purchased in the store, doesn't show up anywhere in my library. Strangely enough, when I go to my iPhone (I have iTunes Match) the track IS there on the phone.

Updating iTunes Match made it appear (but not download) in my track list; of course that takes about five or ten minutes of iTunes talking to Apple, then you still need to download it, so it's pretty annoying. This is a bug and one hopefully to be fixed soon.
