Email address not recognized by vendors in Safari field

This happens intermittently. I go to purchase something in Safari and I get done filling out my credit info, etc and the submitted page comes back saying that my email is not in the proper format. I can type it again and again and I keep getting these errors...the email IS typed in correctly. This has happened on several vendors pages now and also on the sign in for support communities. I normally always use Safari. I was having the problem tonight singing in to here. I ended up using Chrome, which I never use and it let me through with no problem. What could be going on here?
