While I can understand that Apple does what is its hands to preserve battery life, I do think that it is not acceptable that we can't run FaceTime, Skype, etc while our devices are locked in standby mode.

Well I believe the "Jeanus Apple Brains" have out done themselves with this one!!  We would never need to use Find My iPod while it's sleeping.... Hey stuuuuuuuuuuupid!!!!  If it's not connected to WiFi it can't be found!! So.....now what's their jeanus answer gonna be?????  I'll let you know when I find my iPod I'll get the serial number and call them!!!

Follow paoshee's directions, I also got mine to work. Here is what I did

    - remove passcode

    - hold power+home for 20+ seconds

    - turn on iPhone 4

    - setup passcode

How wifi stays on and I can get notifications. I notice when I wake up the iPhone, the wifi icon comes on super quick. Previously, it would take several seconds for the icon to come on.

This problem seems to be inconsistent. My wife's iPhone and my iPod's wifi stays on when sleeping and power is unplugged. We've never done anything to it. Both are running iOS 6.0.1

    I don't have a passcode on my iPod...never have because I don't need it..

This just began happening to me today. I have iOS 6.0.1 from the day it was released, and I never had this problem before. But I see that most of the people here have this problem since November.

Then, I read someone's comment that if its plugged into external power, the device won't lose the wifi.

Well, I was on my iPod touch 4th gen and it had 20% battery or less. The wifi signal kept disappearing when in sleep mode. But then, when I plugged my iPod and locked it, everything was just fine. During the day, my iPod had more battery, and I didn't seem to notice the problem. So my point is that maybe Apple did put this feature, but it is only present when the battery is, a say less than 30%...?

The strange part about all this is that I never seemed to notice this before, and, as I stated above, I've been using iOS 6.0.1 from quite some time now.

It's not the battery or anything else...  just Apple idiots...  I'm still trying to figure out how they think the Find my iPod feature is supposed to work if it's asleep and not hooked up to wifi....  stoooooooooooopid

I don't understand how this is not being treated as a big issue. Whats the point of having push notifications enabled if the network disconnects when the device is asleep. I've had this issue since IOS6 on my iPad and I'm considering getting rid of it now because it doesn't do what it's designed to. Unless a software update based resolution appears soon I'll be returning my iPad 3 as its just not fit for purpose under these conditions

May be we should post a some kind of document to get Apple's attention somehow? Because in 6.0.1 there was no fix for that issue... And it is so upsetting me.

My iPod Touch 4G is useless when it sleeps....

Hi Guys, I just wanna share with you how I make my iPhone 4S and iPad3 keeps running Wi-Fi when go to sleep mode, Some routers or access points fail to keep alive a connection active for low consuming devices, so you must configure your wireless network manually, Is very simple; just go to Settings and Wi-Fi and forget the network that ir already saved after that select Other... You must Enter exactly the name of your wireless and the Security configuracion, and when you finish tap on Join and ready your device will never disconect from that wireless network anymore when sleeping. Hope it works.

    Hi,

I've got a temporary solution, it worked for me and many others.

    Go to Settings> Wi-Fi >

you get a list with Wi-Fi networks, click on the ''blue arrow'' behind the name of your network.

You want to have IP-adress on DHCP.

Then scroll down to; HTTP-proxy, if that is on ''off or Manual'' put it to Automaticly.

This should fix the problem for a while.

Notice; You will have to do this for every Wi-Fi network you're using at different places!

    Hope it helps!

    This blows my mind.

APPLE, trying to hide the battery life issue that was blown out of porportion in the media... "fixes" the problem by making iPods (and some iPhones) effectively disfunctional when it comes to communication...... I rely heavily on notifications when folks try to contact me via SKYPE, Yahoo Messenger, Text+, etc...

I'll tell you what's become disfunctional.. it's APPLE management. What a ******** decision.

If I revert to ios5, if it's even possible, then I will quickly find that many apps are not backwards compatible probably.

I'm getting that good ol' feeling I used to get with my old Windows based computers... I guess it was inevitable.
