If you haven't corrected your issue with the iTunes not opening did a quick post on downgrading back to iTunes 10.7... sounds like you know what your soing, so here is the pose that helped me fix the "iTunes Library.itl error" (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20447382#20447382 )
additionally here is a link to my post: How to downgrade from iTunes 11 to 10.7 (Until the next iTunes 11.xxx release)
Basically I did a file search for "iTunes Library.itl" and opened the file location (my file was located in: C:/Users/Spencer/Music/iTunes), Then I opened the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder in a new window, the "Drag+Ctl" to copy the most recent library folder into the iTunes Folder, then renamed the backup copy to "iTunes Library.itl" and replaced the one that iTunes 11 created.

Not only is iTunes 11 playback buffer slower, it is missing iTunes DJ - a wonderful, fun feature for personal parties. I used to be able to dump a song in mid-play by clicking on the last 10 seconds of the playback progress bar and playback response would be immediate to the new point. NOW there is a full 3-second dead air when I click to advance the playback and the playback buffer has to search the new point. This is NOT an improvement.
While some of the iTunes DJ functionality has been carried forward to the playlist features in ver. 11, the overall benefit of iTunes DJ has been removed. WHY?????
Apple has digressed to the Microsoft philosophy of shoving some isolated developer's idea of an improvement down the user's throat. What happed to the Apple I have known since 1987 that made products people actually WANT? I guess that passed with the loss of Steve Jobs, God rest his soul.
The new regime has different ideas, I'm afraid.
I have nearly 7,000 songs in my iTunes library and can only play them back now in a reduced capacity iTunes - can't use my songs in a pro-DJ software product like ZULU. STUCK ! ! !
I thought the "update" was only a simple improvement, not knowing this was going to be a major change. Would NEVER have allowed the "update" if I had known. I work in a foreign country halfway around the world and wasn't aware of the trap. #&(#)(%#%*(%!@>*

NOW I find that iTunes no longer recognizes my iPod 160. When I connect it, the iPod begins to syncronize, then automatically ejects itself ! ! ! Now what is going on here?
Never in my life have I had this kind of trouble with any Apple product.
Does anyone know how to contact a live Apple support person I can speak with to resolve the iPod issue???????
I have been betrayed by Apple

I DO hate it too ! Awful look&feel. Functions missing:
1) can't import a complete folder, only file by file
2) the miniplayer is missing: playtime done, playtime to go; volume function is gone!
3) updating info for a song: you can't use the buttons forward and backward anymore, only OK button
Terrible mistake by Apple. And also without any upfront notification.

Like a few others, I like it. Threw me a little at first, but made a good impression after 10-15 minutes of exploring. Now I have a few hours with it, and like it more and more. I like 'Up Next'.
iTunes 11 does seem to spend a lot of time "sending Genius info" and "gathering information on my library" but hopefully that won't continue forever.
You can't blame Apple for making the Mac/PC iTunes more like the mobile version as the world moves to internet mobile devices. They'd be crazy to do otherwise.
I thought coverflow was novel, but never used it that much. Obviously that's one of the big sticking points with users.
And it's inevitable that any change will generate some negative reactions. Time will tell what the broad consensus is.

My albums are now in order by a performer. Since the bulk of mine are cast albums, it is insane. Sometimes an obscure actor is the performer as he or she might have the first song. This is just horrible.
In addition, I can play only a track, not an entire album, on my iPad3

I have a suggestion for all of us that are having major problems. I lost music, playlists, can't display duplicates, etc. I went to Support, clicked on Itunes, and it wanted me to put a device serial number, even though Itunes isn't a device. I put in my Ipad serial number, even though this is issue on my computer, haven't even checked the Ipad yet. Then it said I would have to pay to get a call. There is also an option to ask for an exception to paying. I did that and received a call right away. The technician actually spoke English. She said my libraries were just moved, but that wasn't the issue. For the Duplicate issue, she had me right click on any song in library, go down to Apply Sort Field, and select All Matching Fields. Well, that did not get rid of the duplicates. Also, some of my songs have the little ! mark next to them saying the song can't be found.. So, she put me on hold, and had to schedule a call back for tomorrow so she could research it. The issues she is researching is :where is my music?
How do I display duplicates without manually having to look thru each one, What about the ! for music I can't find? What about the playlists that are gone?
I will let you all know what i find out

Not crazy about it, but with Apple - and, really, most technology - you have to stay relatively up-to-date or eventually something stops working. That said, I am particularly unhappy about:
- Loss of "Display Duplicates"
- Can't open playlists and store in new window.
- Loss of "Cover Flow"
I'm also having great difficulty applying or altering the column browser in playlists. This seems to be a bug.
Feels like someone is changing things just to have something to do.

When I spoke with the rep. I even said it seemed like these changes are to encourage us to subscribe to Match. Not to be paranoid, but if I had, I wouldn't have lost my songs (but still would have lost playlists). She laughed and said that was not the idea. I think everyone should call and just barrage them with complaints. If there is no resolution when they call me back tomorrow, I will try system restore to the day before I upgraded, but not feeling very confident about whether that will work.
