I just bought a new MacBook Pro. and I am trying to set up the mail.

I do not want the VIP list on my Mac, but I do want it on my iPhone.  Also, I do want the Cloud enabled on my Mac.

So I unchecked the mail from System Preferences->Cloud (I am not using the Apple cloud mail) but the VIPs still made it to the Mac.

Then I removed every single entry from Mac's Mail app's VIP and guess what, it dissapeared from my iPhone.

My first question is

1. What makes the VIP list sync with the cloud and how can I keep VIPs on one device but not on another?

There is a good reason for this. My wife has her email account on her iPhone, and I have my account on my iPhone. We have been fine sharing the VIPs because she gets her messages and I get my messages, so there is no clutter.   However, on the Mac we put both accounts on the Mail app. Thus we have to scroll to each other's messages, which is very inconvenient.

2. Is there any way to bring the Lion mail to Mountain Lion (5.3 on my old MBP that runs Lion)?.

Thanks in advance

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), 2.6 GHz Core i7, 8GB RAM

Try control clicking the VIP mail box and deleting it from Mail on the Mac.

If you can see the MBP in the Finder sidebar, mount it, and you can drag the application to the Mac. I suggest putting on the desktop. It may not work though. If there is a slash line through the MBP Mail application, it will not work.

I understood you only wanted to delete the VIP mail box on the Mac, but not your iPhone.

I do not have a VIP mailbox in Mail on my Mac. I deleted it.

I tried to delete the VIP mail box on iCloud and couldn't.

    Try this on the Mac:

I'm glad you figured it out.

I didn't have that much problem though.

Oh well, sometimes the ones and zeros have a mind of their own, or so it seems at times.

The only emails that sync between my Mac and my iPad are @me.com emails. Maybe you could just change System Preferences to have Mail on the Mac not sync with iCloud?
