I have FCP X and just purchased Motion 5 and I don't know where to begin. Do you edit a clip in Motion 5 and import to FCPX or do you take an clip from the Timeline in FCPX and import to Motion. Also, do you create a title (for example) in Motion alone or does Motion work with a title that you created in FCPX. Does Motion 5 just enhance the editing features of FCPX or is it a stand alone or both?

What is the best method to learn Motion 5? Any good books.

Thanks in advance..........

It's both. You can take a FCP effect and greatly enhance it. You can start a project from scratch and save it in FCP for further use and repurposing…or take the finished project and export it as a stand alone movie.

IMO, the best way is one-on-one in a class room environment - followed up with a lot of hands-on homework.

Second best is getting a tutorial from a vendor like Ripple Training (there are others) and learning from those experts.

Worst (again, IMO) is searching You Tube for examples of how such and such an effect was created: what gets overlooked are the fundumentals.

BTW, I'm both a fan and a (continuing) learner. Lots to learn and it takes time.

    Good luck.

Best way to get started is just to dive in. Follow along with tutorial videos. Get used to the interface.

Be careful, the interface has undergone a significant, but not radical, change from Motion 2/3/4 - things that used to be at the top of the "canvas" are now underneath.)

Looking for books? Look for these authors: Mark Spencer ;  Patrick Sheffield

macProVideo.com has very affordable Motion course you can follow.  But yes, do some training.  The Apple Pro Training Series book on Motion is aweful and confusing, so avoid it.
