You will need to purchase the iLIfe 11 disc (which includes iDVD 7 and iWeb 3 - both of which have been discontinued by Apple) from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: iLife 11.
Then do a custom install of iDVD and it's extra content. If you get an error message about the certification having expired you can try going on and install. If you can't set the date on the Macbook back to around March, 2010, run the iLife installer and then reset it to the correct date.

Hi Old Toad
But isn't it so that iLife'08 has a version of iDVD that can be installed - AND directly after this - DO NOT TRY IT - make a Program Up-date from Apple menu
iDVD 08 (7.0.1) (2008)
iDVD 09 (7.0.4) (2009)
iDVD 11 (7.1.0) (2010-10-21) (7.1.2 2011-07-14)
So that iDVD'11 version 7.1.2 (Last one) will be there - and this will run OK
I'm not sure how-to install from iLife'08 DVD but a selected install and clock set back - should work - Or am I totally wrong ?
Yours Bengt W

Yes. However, iLife 08 will run and without the invalid certificate warning that iLife 11 gives. No need to set the clock back with 08 or with 09. Only iLife 11 needs that.
So all one needs to do with 08 is select a custom install and select what you need.

My daughter's new Macbook
If you are still within your 15 day return period. Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge. (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick. You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

I ordered iLife 08 for my iMac 11 and customized download to only download iDVD..... the iDVD icon popped up on my dock, but every time I click it to try and open it, it says "You can't use this version of the application iDVD with this version of Mac OS X. -- You have iDVD 7.0. "
What do I do ?

Apply the latest updater from here: Apple - Support - iDVD 7 Downloads. You may not be able to go directly to 7.1.2. I don't remember. The installer will tell you what previous version you'll need to get to before it will work.
