YEs, I know apple242, but anything I tell here to try to help someone will be <Edited by Host>. Who knows who is who ? Nice prediction you had, nice chat. You are great and gave me some fun, thanks.

alekbasked for a advise. I gave it but unfortunately he didn't get it.

And Apple DE for me was fantastic... I don't know how you conclude the oposite ( or i have one idea how ).

    Good luck for the normals.

It is edited by Apple (the host).

My impression based on your posts is that it took you quite a long time to get the situation resolved.

Across the border it was done the same day - drop off at 11am.

Ready in less than 3 hours.

I did speak to them beforehand, so let's say 1 week.

Compare that with 6+ months trying to resolve it in Germany.

And my case is not isolated. Look through the comments posted here

and you'll see others in Germany going through the same nightmarish situation.

I don't think there is anything normal about having to spend more than 1-2 weeks on this.

Apple Germany wasted us (and Apple) countless hours and money.

Thankfully Apple US was a responsible parent and resolved the situation to our mutual satisfaction.

    Kudos to Apple for that.

    alekb - Read bulletin TS4088.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Apple repairs this defect free of charge up to 3 years from the date of sale.

It doesn't matter if it's out of warranty.

Print the bulletin and take it to an Apple store or Authorized repair.

They're obligated to repair it free of charge. The repair entails replacing the logic board.

Hi alekb, if you are not a phantom ...

It is too bad you didn't get the eleven steps i post to solve the problem in the good german way . Some people don't like but it still working fine...  I had so much work to write that, and he deleted ! : P

by now first listen to 242. I'm sure that your problem will be solved quite fast ( isn't it host ? ).

I dont know how but 242 was the only one that read my recipe (apart of "the host"). The conclusion is that 242 is part of the host ... so if you read it. Listen to him. they will solve the problem.

Hope you find a fast solution, if not ask the host for my post ...

    p.s. you guys don't sleep ???

Just an update. I showed the technician the article and asked him to run the VST. Immediately the test shows a faulty GPU. They agreed to change the logic board for me and now I got my MBP back. So far no panics.

    Hi apple242,

I see my confusion now, I don't know why but I was thinking this plan, the TS4088, was about the video card, there is no mention of logic board, and because says "video" I thougth that. So it have nothing to do with the video card? only logic board, am I rigth??

    thanks!

    cheers

I am not sure what means VST, just tell the technician, they will understand. Logic board is free of charge. They change the whole thing because the GPU is binded to the logic board.

Alekb - The problem is the Nvidia and it is on the motherboard. The solution is to replace the logic board - nothing else works.

    Hi All,

Hmm. I have question, perhaps someone can help me.

Does changing the logic board entail changing the hard-drive?

In other words, Is the hard-drive completely separate from the logic board in such a way that you can just switch out the logic board with the hard drive still in place, and you can just start up where you left off?

The main reason for my question is because I do a lot of work in Windows (BootCamped) and having to get back everything to the way it is now, before changing the logic board, is going to be a royal pain.

    Any comments? Thanks!

    Hi bobsterbobs,

The logic board and HDD are different components and replacing one does not require replacing the other. Of course good practice is to backup all your data before sending it off for repair just in case something goes wrong.

I'm having the random kernel panics as well - especially after waking up from sleep.

I took it to an apple store and asked them about the logic board issue / special test. The guy said that the test is now integrated in the 10.8 test suite that you can run when rebooting. He ran the tests and it didn't show anything weird. So he said - reinstall your OS and it's probably some 3rd part software....

    Anybody got the same response?

    Hi bodacious_sd,

"The guy said that the test is now integrated in the 10.8 test suite that you can run when rebooting."
To my knowledge 'the guy' is wrong. The test has not been included in the inbuilt test suite. According to the official internal Apple technical documentation, VST is the correct and only way to detect the fault. If they are not sure then remind them to reread the OP555 document, which is the official test and repair proceedure.
There is no reason for them to refuse to run VST as it is a quick and easy test.

Keep in mind that it is possible your fault is not related, in which case the VST will pass.

If you don't have any luck with the guy' then just go to a different Authorised Apple Repair Centre and hopefully they will follow proceedure.
