I just puchases Snow Leopard in order to upgrade to Lion. I had purchased Lion for my Imac desktop from the Apple Store. I have read items on how to redownload from the apple store with no success. I have seen where you go to purchases and hold down the option key and click purchases and it should show Lion. It did not work. Any other ideas?

Firstly, your profile is out of date.  It would help if you would update it.

How did you purchase Lion (By USB Flash drive).   Until you have Snow Leopard installed you cannot upgrade to Lion.

If you have now installed Snow Leopard then you may have accidentally hidden it.   If so, sign in to your account and half way down the page click on view hidden purchases > then click on Lion, and it should reappear in your purchase list.

I do have Snow Leopard installed on my Macbook Pro. Bought it as a download. You have to be more specific on what you are saying. I am signed into my Itunes Account where it was purchased as a download. I have looked for hidden purchases all over the page and do not see it.

    Hello Emanuel

Looks like you've accidentally marked my post as solved when we are not yet there.   Unfortunately there's not much we can do about that now but I will keep trying.

Sign into your account.  Apple logo >  App Store > Store > View my account.   This is a screen shot of the part of the screen that will enable you to check if Lion has been installed.   It is also the page where you can edit your account details.

You could also check through Spotlight.   Magnifying glass top right hand.   Type in Lion and look for top hit.

I have tried what you said, but it doesn't show anywhere (like your screen shot) that says hidden purchases. I have tried spotlight to search for it, but doesn't show up. We originally downloaded for my Imac and upgraded my Imac to Lion from Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, I did not know that Apple was going to do this if not I would have done a backup of the download, but I did not do that. I have tried all the tricks that it says on the net, by holding down the option key and going to my accounty, but that doesn't work either. I guess I am screwed.

    My Imac is running 10.7.5

Okay; so let us review where you are and what now needs to be done.   This may become protracted because I have become increasingly unwell during the course of this thread and while somewhat better this morning, still not 100%.

Looking back at you initial post ... you have downloaded Snow Leopard (without which you could not download Lion anyway).   You say you are now running with

10.7.5 ... which means you DO have Lion.   Doudble check by going to Apple menu > about this Mac > and check the version numbers under Mac OS X.

So the last remaining question would appear to be 'Why is your purchase list not showing Lion as a purchase?'

I understand the Lion app for some reason best known to Apple, self deletes once it is installed.   For that reason, and as you will know you have it via the 'about this Mac' report, I am pondering the necessity to 'prove it', so to speak.

I am curious as to why you seem unable to raise the hidden apps section so I'll send you a link later.

Let me clarify. I have a Macbook Pro that was running Tiger. I also have an Imac that was running Snow Leopard, which came with my Imac. I bought Lion via download through Itunes. I updated my Imac to Lion. Now, I was wanting to upgrade my laptop to Lion as well. In order for me to do that, I needed to get Snow Leopard (which I bought and received it in the mail and installed on my laptop). Now since I purchased the download version of Lion, I was wanting to use that to upgrade my laptop. When I go to my account, Lion does not show up. I have tried holdng down the option key as I access my account, but that doesn't work. (I have read that since Apple released Snow Lion, Lion won't show up. I have been told to see hidden purchases to hold down the option key when accessing my account, but that doesn't work either.

    Hope that clarifies the situation.

Also, when I go to my account and look at past purchases, it shows that I did purchase Lion. But when I go to purchases, it shows the apps that I have purchase so that I can download again, but doesn't show Lion. Someone on this discussion sent me a screen shot of the hidden purchases, but I don't see that in my account.

The 'someone" who sent you a screen shot was me.   The reason that Lion does not show up is, as I wrote, because it self deletes on completion of the download.

To see hidden purchases you need to sign in to your account ... Apple Logo > App store > menu bar 'Store' > View my account.

The page that comes up will be Account Information.   There are 3 sub sections.

Apple ID summary, iTunes in the cloud and settings.   To the right of iTunes in the cloud is a reference to view Hidden purchases.  Click on that, and if you have any they will show.

If these details are still not clear enough you could as a last resort contact ...

    iTunes support.     http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html

        or

http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/   -  There are a variety of solutions to problems on the left hand side of the page.

I do appreciate your help and I did do what you told me to do, but nowhere on that screen does it give me an option for hidden purchases.

All it shows is: Apple ID Summary, ITunes in the Cloud, Purchase History and settings. Nowhere does it give me an option for hidden purchases

In the Purchase history, it does show that I bought Lion, but I cannot access it.

All I can assume then is that there are no hidden apps.   This is the official Apple guide to hiding or finding hidden apps and the article I said I would send you.

iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases

Perhaps someone else will read of your problem and offer an alternative view.

Well after trying everything that was mentioned to me, plus trying what I have read, I had no luck. So I went to the Apple  Store and talked to one of the Apple "Genius". He wasn't able to recall my purchase either, but said he would load it for me. The only problem with that is that if something went wrong and I had to reload it, I would have to go back to the store and have them do it.

Either way, it was a blessing in disguise. He told me that he wouldn't recommend installing Lion on my laptop, cause it would slow it down. Snow Leopard would be ok, but I did notice it did slow down my machine a bit. My laptop is a few years old, 2.33ghz Macbook Pro Core Dual Processor (pre-unibody). So, that means I have to get a newer laptop to use Lion or Mountain Lion. Guess, I will have to wait until next  year to get a new laptop.

I want to thank everyone who helped out with this discussion.
