There is no Airscan :-)
but you can scan wirelessly on any your OS compatible network scanner of MFP printer with a scanner.
This has to be connected to your network either via WiFi or Eth cable.

Yes I understand but I have no intention to buy a MFP printer because I have already one in black and white. I just like to by a high definition scan in colour.

You will need to google for network (wired or wireless scanner) with the specs you need and which is compatible with OS 10.8.
If you get a wired one you can connect it via cable to your router and will be able to scan wirelessly from your MacBook Air

You'll have to shop around but they are out there. I have a 3 year old Kodak WiFi color printer/scanner that works fine with OS X 10.8 in scan mode over wifi, so there have to be newer models and devices.
