I agree.  This feature needs to be changed.  Do not disturb means do not disturb.  Leave me alone.  Don't ring.  Don't vibrate.  Don't turn lights on or banners. DO NOT DISTURB.

Turning the phone off will accomplish that nicely.

Yes, but what happens when I do not want to be disturbed while I am:

    * Using the phone as a calculator in a quiet exam room

    * Checking my email in a library/theatre/movie

    * Using the phone as a travel clock while sleeping

    * Presenting from the phone to a projector in a business meeting

All perfect arguments for a *real* DND mode.

I absolutely agree. However, the person to whom I made my (somewhat tongue in cheek) reply said:

I suspect they were not going to be using a calculator or presenting.

Totally AGREE with you!!!   Thank You.  Apple needs to change this feature.

I never turn my phone off. I use features even when I don't want to be disturbed.

DND should silence the phone but keep it usable. You can't use an iPhone with a locked screen.

This DND feature is a joke.

I finally figured out my issue.  I kept testing from the same phone.  Under Settings / Notifications / Do Not Disturb, I had Repeated Calls set to On.

It works fine for me except it isn't following the schedule. I have it set 10pm to 7am and it acts like it's within that window even if it's 3 pm!

    Defective...

    Black Powder,

It's not defective. If you have it set to be active from 10pm to 7am and you are getting calls at 3pm, it must be either:

    a) The person calling you is in the Allow Calls From list, or

    b) Repeated Calls is ON and you are getting a repeated call, or

    c) Your phone was not locked and asleep when you got the notification/call

My guess is either a) or c).

I'm not getting anything at 3pm... everthing is silenced... so it's active even outside those hours I have set...

looks like you need to leave DnD off-and only set the scheduled time for activation in Notifications. Notifications will activate it per schedule you set... I didn't see this anywhere but if so it works as is should.

    Ah ok, now I see...

Yes, this is the confusing part:

    - When setting a DND schedule in Notifications, don't turn DND ON; when you set up a schedule in Notifications, the DND software will automatically turn DND ON and OFF itself following the schedule. If you turn DND on yourself, it stays on until the next schedule change (it's a manual override)

    - Turn DND ON/OFF when you want to manually enable/disable it on demand. If you have a schedule set, it changes automatically following the next schedule change. If you don't have a schedule set, it stays ON or OFF until you change it again

That confused me at first - set up a schedule, then turn it ON to enable the schedule, but the DND overrides the schedule.

I was having similar issues with this feature and after reading all the posts I did some testing of my own and discovered that it is working just not as I expected.

If you have the schedule turned ON then DND is ON permanently and it works based on the schedule and if locked etc. If the schedule is OFF then it works based on the manual selection of DND, ON or OFF.

My expectation was that with the schedule ON then DND would toggle ON and OFF based on the schedule but this is not the case.

No, that *is* the case. Except now is not a good time to test it because DND is currently broken due to the 2013 rollover bug. It was working fine until Jan 1. It's supposed to resolve itself on Jan 7.

OK thanks. That explains my confusion then.
