Hey dear Russ,
thanks for the feedback
I will answer also to David.
I have tried all your suggestions ( using tiff or PGN or PSD format) it does not change the export result
When you are talking about easy setup? you mean the export set-up, correct? Here I have tried 720 as well as 1080, but still those unstable edges
Do you run still picture in you FCE projects and make some transitions with it and what is the result
I am running crazy, not finding a solution.
I have bought already the software FOTOMAGICO, which is very good export result, but has two big missing point : no online view of transition, non visible video transition on the timeline, so is hard to get AUDIO snchronization and has not free transition programming features. ANd those three things I like in FCE
Any further help or question from your side would make me happy

My projects have been generally been done in FCP7 and are typically 720P Pro Res. But I have done slide show projects in FCE using the AIC codec in 720P sequences and they have gone well.
Yes, you use 720P HDV-AIC Easy Setup. Export using Quick Time Movie (NOT QT Conversion). Your raggedy edges look like interlacing. Using a progressive sequence should eliminate it.
Also, your project will go a lot easier if you reduce the size of your stills to no more than 2X the resolution of your sequence (1440 px).

Not exactly what we were after. Did you create a new sequence after changing the Easy Set-up? Please control click on the sequence icon in the browser, choose Item Properties and post a screen shot.
Once your image problem is solved we still need to overcome one obstacle. I completely overlooked the info that said your location is Germany.
FCE doesn't have a PAL version of 720P. So we end up with a frmae rate of 29.97 instead of 25.
You should be able to covert the frame rate either at export using QT conversion or by converting in MPEG Streamclip.

the video rate of the object does not change when I manipulate on the easy setting
If I import pictures, I do this directly from pircture folder into the BIN, and that should be independently from video input setting
The frame rate should also not be a problem for me here in Germany, because working directly from MAC to flatscreen
I put you a screenshot of the new sequence
The Mov output looks not that bad, even if one looks into detail see picture attached, the steps between one and next frame creates problems
I try also to send you the latest version of a slide transiltion example in iPhone quality ( this can not be attached ) it is a 2MB file. If you like I send you by email.
looks a bit improved vs the morning, but I do not feel confident.
What do you think?
Best regards and will come back tomorrow

Ok. Glad the frame rate can be ignored.
We're actually still not in the progressive sequence I think we need to be in for best image quality.
In the Easy Setups list, choose 720P hdv-Apple Intermediate Codec.
Then start a new sequence.
I think the main problrm is the interlaced sequence. If the ssequence is progressive, that is good, and the field dominance should be NONE/
Try that, Thanks.

I have done some further steps of improvement by chossing the sequence setup like mentioned above
What still strikes me, that I do not find an entry to look on the other parameters you are adressing, like e.g. field dominance.
Would be great, if you can give me a hint, where to find it in FCE
In any case already by now a big hand for your support
I will keep you posted on my next results. Currently machine is busy with rendering

Happy to hear that you're making process.
Here is a screenshot of the test project I've been referring to. It is an expanded view of the browser, which I got from scrolling to the right. Notice that I have two sequences. One is 720P and the field dominance is NONE; ie, it's a progressive sequence. The other sequence is DV NTSC and its field dominance is LOWER; it is an interlaced sequence.
BTW, my version of FCE is 3.5 and there are some differences between the way it works and the way 4.0 works. But I think those differences are mainly that v4 has improved importing as well as more flexibility in setting up Timelines. I doubt the Browsers are any different.

will most probably become Thursday, that you will get a feedback from me
Need to resinstall Mountain Lion, because Aperture3 - FCE and Mountainlion do not play together.
Apple told me now to installe FinalCutPro. Any experience with it from your side vs FCE?
Good luck for you and chat to you on Thursday
