Ok so it looks like there was a major glitch with the "Ripple Effect" when update for iMovie 9.0.5 was released, to the point it was not working on a lot of machines. Then "Apprently you had to update to 9.0.6 or 9.0.8 which removed.

The reason behind this "this is what the Apple Rep Told Me" is becuase Apple does not like to have their product gliching or known issues, so they have removed it until they fix the issue, he advised to make sure everyone who is in  the same boat post on the dissucssions as this should get it back.

He said it will more than likely be put back once the bugs have been ironed out so just make sure you are updating.

I want to add my plea for getting the "Ripple Effect" back!  It was one of my favorites when making slide shows for all the fishermen in our family!

    Hi,

Has anyone else realised it's not just the ripple that's disappeard?

The transitions that looks like tearing the top of a page (from the left and right hand side) have also disappeard.

Does anyone else still have this,  as I don't?

In iMovie '11 (version 9.0.8) I still have the transitions Page Curl Left and Page Curl Right. They are listed on the last line of transitions, just before the last transition Cross Zoom.

In earlier versions, Cross Zoom appeared immediately after Cross Blur and Cross Dissolve, followed by the Ripple transition. Ripple has now disappeared and Cross Zoom has been repositioned to last in the list. Page Curl transitions have been repositioned also - previously they appeared after Fade to White, now they are listed after the Puzzle transitions. Strange!

    Hi John,

I have found them now.  I'm not used to them being at the end and it threw me a bit being in a different place.

I suppose it doesn't take much to confuse me.

    Thanks,

Thanks Linda - that clears it up! We all get confused at times, so don't worry about it.

I was just wondering if there is any new information on whether or not Apple is going to put back the ripple effect into iMovie. If anyone has any new information on this it would be most appreciated, since I have several projects that I have been working on using this effect, andI  have put them "on hold" waiting to see what Apple is going to do in the future. Thanks.

Anybody know if 9.0.9 added the Ripple effect back?  I reverted to an older version of iMovie and I don't want to update until I know Riplle is back.

    Hi Ryan,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Ripple transition is still missing after the 9.0.9 update.

I would like to add my voice to the chorus of those crushed by the removal of the Ripple transition.  Not only was it one of the prettiest, it was a hallmark of the original Aqua from the 2nd coming of Steve Jobs used in their retail show-floor attract loops and all over the place.  No more love for use lowly Mere Mortals?

Stories of its continued existence in iMovie's package file make me hunger for a hack to twiddle some bits in the list accepted to populate its transitions choices, because obviously it then has been disabled on some machines which can handle it, so I would appreciate a way to at least try and see.  It disgusts me that Apple's own inability to be sure it works on all machines would be why all of us pay the price.  I have a feeling that's a red herring anyway since newer machines are so unlikely to have been a source of trouble for using it, and older software worked just fine on the older machines (or there wouldn't be so many of us driven out of the woodwork to protest, having successfully used and loved it).

    Please, Apple, bring Ripple back!

Unless everyone who want the "Ripple" back in iMovie tells Apple directly, they won't be listening.

    You'll need to head to

If they get enough users contacting them they may do something about this problem, otherwise they probable won't.

Most excellent specifics, Isleander, mine is scheduled for a few minutes from now.  My particular project was a trip to Monterey Bay Aquarium, so you can imagine what grace its judicious use lent (mostly Cross-Fade, Cross Blur, Fade to White, but Ripple for some special moments).  I'm so glad you've indicated such a useful conduit for our concerns, and I sincerely hope others follow suit.

So, OK!  Just got off the phone with Apple Support and they recommended I submit feedback additionally to their official site as a feature request:

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/imovie.html

They did say the more requests they see the more justifiable a priority it becomes, so please everyone, follow the link and submit a message requesting the Ripple transition be restored to iMovie ASAP!

    My talking points were:

    • iMovie's transitions are one of its most visible and distinctive displays of its quality's superiority among consumer-grade video production soft wares

    • transitions are a primary selling point of iMovie

    • transitions constitute one of the biggest impacts on users' movies

    • Ripple was perhaps the loveliest of iMovie's transitions, and though it may not be immediately apparent publicly, many, many users, professional and private alike, dearly miss it

    • Ripple carries tremendous significance as a direct tie with the original Aqua's retail show-floor attract loops and other promotional material which brought Apple's caliber of aesthetic into the hands of Mere Mortals

    • it's been missing for over a year now and yet its composition file still exists in the program's package file, so even if some machines can't use it, the rest of us shouldn't pay that price

    • it is a highly justifiable priority considering its prominence in iMovie's feature set and its disctinctive beauty unmistakably elevating iMovie projects above others

Any additional solid reasons you can think of above and beyond all your specific personal ones (mine was my aforementioned Monterey Bay Aquarium trip), do add to this thread for others to employ.
