Why does iphone 5 drop wifi when it wakes from sleep and make me choose my home network each time.

I have the same problem. Apple knows about it. They need to know what kind of router you are using for your home network. I use their TIme Capsule. THis is such a bad situation.

go to settings > wifi > (your wifi connection) > tap the blue arrow on the right side > Tap forget this network after reboot your devices, go to settings > wifi > dont click your wifi network (instead) tap others and add your wifi manually

Done! problem solve! hope it helps!

But this problem happens with all wifi connections, how can I reboot public hotspots?  Apple needs to communicate what is being done about this problem.

It is either a software bug or they shipped a bunch with this hardware problem because the Apple store Genius eventually replaced my phone, after I called support and went through everything with a senior support tech who said it was a known issue, which the Genius denied, but it must be. No more problems, including I can now see my home network everywhere my wife's 4S sees it. Get them to give you a new phone.
