I have a game that I would like to combine picture files with, the game only recognizes bmp files. I import the files (as bmp files) into Aperture and edit them and when I export them they always come out as jpeg files. Is there anyway I can export them in the bmp format?

Thanks

Aperture only exports Jpeg, tiff, png, psd.

You will have to create the bmp-files in another program, sorry.

    Sorry.

Try the free gimp, graphicconverter, pixelmator, Photoshop.

No way to export a BMP (surprised to here it even imports them).

You'll need to serch around for a way to convert the JPG to BMP outside of Aperture.

Using Applescript it is possible to do the conversion using Image Events.  This script (modified from a script I found online) will convert the selected image into BMP format saving it as a new file:

set this_file to choose file without invisibles

set the target_file to (choose file name default name "newimage.bmp")

-- convert file reference in alias format to path string

set the target_path to the target_file as Unicode text

    try

              tell application "Image Events"

-- start the Image Events application

      launch

      -- open the image file

                        set this_image to open this_file

      -- save in new file

save this_image as BMP in target_path with icon

-- purge the open image data

      close this_image

              end tell

    on error error_message

display dialog error_message buttons {"Cancel"} default button 1

    end try

A great script, Frank. I considered to suggest to use a shellscript with the "Convert" command, but that would have required to install ImageMagick using ImageEvents is much better.

i just looked again at the dictionary for Image Events; this script should also work for PICT.

Have a look at the man page for sips (scriptable image processing system). I had forgotten about it but a recent post in the Technologies list mentioned it. Seems that Image Events is a front end for sips.

Ah yes, I see. Image Events simply maps the sips functionality to Apple Script, nice.
