When I recently created a pages document and saved it to my desktop, a second Pages folder/icon appeared on my desktop which I cannot remove.

I have now deleted the original document however I cannot delete the duplicate.

I cannot even move it on the desktop nor can I can any Info about it.

This is the dialogue: The item “Scope & Seq 9 & 10~.pages” can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted.

Any ideas?, Thanks.

If you have downloaded files saved to the Desktop & you have Stuffit Expander installed it will automatically unzip anything it can. If you save downloads to a folder, even a folder on the Desktop, this won’t happen. There is a setting in Stuffit Expander to disable this.

    Thanks Peggy,

But I do not have Stuffit and this is not a download.

It was a document I created in  Pages which has generated a folder icon on my desktop which I cannot move or delete.

Even though it's not a download, Stuffit treats any file saved to the Desktop like this. Did you do a Spotlight search for Stuffit? That's the only time I've see this behavior although I guess some other unarchiving utility might do the same thing.

Yes I did search for it and no, definitely do not have Stuffit.

    Select the demon document:

    Menu > File > Info

Check its permissions (if necessary change them so you can alter it) and whilst you are at it, what is it's size (if it is tiny then it probably is not a Pages document) and what the System thinks it is.

Open Disk Utility and repair the permissions for that drive which may fix the problem as well.

A simple restart sometimes fixes the problem as well.

Thanks Peter and Peggy for your suggestions.

I was unable to 'Get Info' or even move the icon on my desktop.

Tried repairing permissions and restarting but that had no effect.

I finally got rid of it just then by running Automation in Onyx.

    Best,
