I just started using garageband (musical typing) to trigger imported samples...How can I hit, say the 'D' key, release, and have it finish out the sample? Instead of having to hold the key down until file is finished playing??

GarageBand '09, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I don't remember, if this will work in GB '09, but in GB '11 you will get a longer sound, when you press down the "Sustain" key (the "tab" in Musical typing). Place a little weight (a coin or something) onto the sustain key, if you do not want to hold it down yourself.

What Instrument are you using to trigger its Samples?

If possible, set the samples to "One Shot" or increase the Release value.

    or increase the Release value.

Yes, this will work, but is not rather iconvenient to have to go to the Track Info Edit pane of the sound effect instrument and the instrument settings, if you want to stop a note? If you increase the release value, this will apply to all notes alike.
