Nov 24, 2012 4:43 PM in response to turingtest2by Davyie,Thanx, I think I'll need it.
I'll let you know the results. It could help set a benchmark for a 4 year old ipod in decent condition(albeit somehow not working).

Nov 25, 2012 12:28 PM in response to familyfishnby Davyie,Hey tt2, thought i would report back to the community. My ipodnow works. tested the surface for errors etc, didnt go well. it froze 62% with 12% errors and computer crashed. Did a full slow format took 6 hours and then a disk check. It just so happened i was installing Win8 this afternoon so had to reinstall itunes from scratch, i think that is what may have done it along with the full reformat of ipod. so there was my solution. For anyone else with the same 1439 error if you havent tried already, ignore the ipod at first, and reinstall itunes completely i dont think you would have to reinstall windows or if you are using a mac( you lucky ppl haha) mac OS, back up library 1st obviously.
Thanks for all your help tt2.

Dec 4, 2012 3:07 PM in response to turingtest2by Joliane,Hello TT2! I see lots of people are writting directly to you!! I need your help too. For the past weeks, I've spend around 20 hours trying to solve the problem (Itunes completly freezes when Ipod plugged in, cannot stop it with task manager, obligate to stop it by restarting my computer).Yeah, 20 hours is a lot but I'm not good with computers so... I've tried all the 7 pages of advices here plus so many other websites and forum. I'm so happy I can directly ask someone!!
Here is what the diagnostic gives me:
Retracts: 45
Reallocs: 8
Pending sectors: 48
PowerON: 205
Starts/Stops: 15068
Tempcurrent: 27C
Tempmin:54c
Temp: 255c
And there's no change to it (except the Starts/Stops!!), whatever I do. But the one thing that tells me it's not over and why I keep on is that twice (yesterday and today) when I connect it to Itunes (first time in disk mode and then this time in DFU) it recognizes the Ipod, say it has to restore it, restore it and THEN while it seems to be synchronizing, Itunes freezes. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! Please, please tell me there's still something to do I don't understand. Like... I can't understand those software or firmware stuffs... I've deleted and reinstalled my Itunes so many times. Tried to uncheck or check whatever what... Well, I think you can picture that. So!! IF you have anything that could help, please tell me!! Thanks in advance.

Dec 4, 2012 3:58 PM in response to Jolianeby turingtest2,That max. temperature is probably wrong, but things may well have got hot enough to warp components and get the processor issuing random instructions.. Sad to say, but I think it might be time to call it a day.

Dec 7, 2012 9:19 AM in response to turingtest2by Joliane,This is a message of hope!!
I've been trying for 3 weeks now to repair my ipod with this forum & lots of other website (25 hours of work, minimum!! I'm crazy, I know!!). After your advice TT2, I was ready to throw my ipod away. But I decided to do one more thing... connect it to another computer. I know it was in the suggestions but I couldn't during those week and yesterday I did. I turn Itunes on and then plug my ipod into disk mode, shut it down and let the computer open it. Everything seemed to work ok so I did a restore.... BLEH Itunes freezed. So I did that all again but instead of restoring it, I just synchronized the music that was on that computer on my ipod... and guess what?? It worked perfectly!!!!!!!!!! And back home, I connected it to my Itunes, deleted the songs I put on it previously, synchronized mine... And yes, yes, yes, it worked again perfectly!!
Thanks a million for your advices TT2 and if somebody's reading that post, persevere!! & good luck ! -

Dec 21, 2012 12:48 PM in response to turingtest2by alex_p123,Hi, I have revcently experienced the same problems. I realise a couple of weeks have passed since the last post, but I would really appreciate your opinion turingtest2 .
So basically I got a new Ipod Classic, and these are the stats I have got from it.
Retracts: 2
Reallocs: 7872
Pending Sectors: 0
PowerOn Hours: 6
Start/Stops: 142
Temp: Current 30c
Temp: Min 22c
Temp: Max 55c
Baring in mind it is brand new, the reallocs number scared me... I think I've just about got the Ipod working for now, but do you think it will be ok in the long run? I've booked a genius appointment for next week though, as I really couldn't solve it until seeing this thread!
Thanks
Edit:
Actually, it stops syncing at the second song for some reason...argh!

Dec 21, 2012 2:55 PM in response to alex_p123by turingtest2,If that's a new iPod and you haven't been cooking or shock testing it then then I'd demand they swap it out for a new one... It clearly isn't healthy.

Dec 21, 2012 3:01 PM in response to turingtest2by alex_p123,Well I got it out of the packet and tried to sync it, that's when it all started going wrong. Thank you for the advice though, I will try and get a replacement. This one is taking an age to sync!

Dec 27, 2012 5:42 PM in response to turingtest2by Jondythemusicaddict,Hello!
I cannot sync my iPod. iTunes states that it appears it is corrupted and asks me to restore. Restore attempts are met with 1415 and 1439 errors. Cannot format it through windows due to an error.
However: the iPod itself is working fine. All the music I had on it is still there, and I can still listen to it, and it just works fine. But I can't restore it or add/remove music.
I tried a different computer and got the same results.
I tried to run some error check with CopyTrans Doctor, and it failed to run it's test.
Retracts: 27
Reallocs: 0
Pending Sectors: 10
PowerOn Hours: 251
Start/Stops: 230
Temp: Current 28C
Temp: Min 4C
Temp: Max 54C
What do you think?

Apple TVThe stats don't look too serious. Try a DFU restore. Press Menu & Select like a normal reset but keep holding for 12 seconds. The device should reboot as normal and then the screen should go blank. Now connect to iTunes. It should detect a device in "recovery mode" and offer to restore it. With luck this time it will be successful.
Other things to try are a different lead, a different computer or a different operating system. i.e. ask a friend with a Mac to try restoring it.

Dec 28, 2012 9:49 AM in response to turingtest2by Jondythemusicaddict,Thanks for the reply. I'll try that when I get home tonight. I actually have an iMac, but it's a little old and on the fritz, and fails to boot into mac os although booting into vista still works fine, so if it comes to it I might have to restore my iMac to restore my iPod which I will henceforth refer to as restoreception.
